To answer the questions I know will be coming -


After multiple benchmark tests, NO, the graphics card riser does not hinder performance in any measurable way.

Dust has been almost no issue whatsoever. I vacuum it when I vacuum the room and as a result it has stayed far cleaner than any other computer I've ever owned.

The cables are all showing because I took this picture right after I finished. I then went back and organized the cables above and below the desk so they are no longer showing.

thats a cool idea, kind of like a mishmash of science project and art. i may try the same, would be a good way to illustrate pc hardware to people.

Vacuuming electrical parts like this is a big no-no, isn't it?

That is epic man - congrats.

What did you use for the "base" that is mounted to the wall? Or is that the bottom of a server plane?

The base is made out of 3/4" plywood. I spray painted it with a few different layers and colors of paint so that it wasn't just a flat black.

Everything that is mounted to it is on risers to keep it away from the wood.

Thoughts:

1. Great job
2. It looks rather messy. If you really want it to be artsy as well, I'd consider getting a 'frame' border around the board. Now THAT would look like a mega contemporary art.
3. The cables are the biggest offender. I would arrange them very neatly in a criss-cross manner within the board. And have ONE output where all centralized cable comes out from the frame.

I can imagine it being noisy as it's right above your head without the case, but it would be overclocker's dream as no heat is trapped.

My biggest regret with this thing in the end was not buying a modular power supply for the project. I had this nice 750 Watt beast already and I was feeling stingy at the time. If I did this again I could drastically improve it by using a modular power supply and some better cable management methods.

Part of me wants to do another computer like this just so I can improve on all the things I learned the first time around.

It looks great and geek kudos to you.

However, I am concerned about grounding/static buildup.I would have probably gone with an aluminum or other metal backplate. This would have grounded the components to the common ground of the power supply and helped to keep static damage to a minimum.

Good idea, would i be possible the run all the in-PC cables behind the wood and all the display/power/peripherals through the wall? Grounding issues off of the motherboard?

art is subjective. changing the cables and making them all linear, stowed and organized would actually take away from the artistic value it has. very neatly, criss-crossed would be aesthetically pleasing to some, but not all. its too strict, OCD and controlling for my tastes. the frame part i agree with tho.
