Wall mount for Kuro 50" + Device Storage Cabinet

I'm going to be moving into a new apartment in a couple of weeks and would like to see if anyone has some advice as far as the two items in my title are concerned.

First, I was thinking about buying a wall mount from Monoprice. Has anyone used their mounts before?

Second, I would like to store all of my devices in a cabinet rather than a TV stand. I'll have a receiver, htpc, xbox, ps3, modem/router, and preferably some space for dvds/blu-rays. Does anyone have a line on a nice, relatively inexpensive cabinet or would I be better off trying to build my own?
 
Monoprice mounts are almost always great, and usually over built. The older cantilever mounts that they sell are a little awkward looking but worked.

What kind of cabinet are you looking at? Leads on cheap ones? no... most cheep cabinets are garbage. The biggest thing people seem to have issues with in cabinets is that they don'y account for the cables coming out of the back of the receiver/deepest component.

Thanks for the heads up about Monoprice.

I'd like a TV stand with three compartments but one of the edges has to be able to contain a HTPC case that's 14" tall. I'd probably have to get a wall mount because of the center speaker being 22" wide.

I'd prefer to nab the whole enchilada at < $400.

I can vouch for the monoprice mounts. i got the one that swivels, tilts, and extends and it works great. Super easy to install as well

As long as there's a couple of inches between the wall and the TV itself, you'll be okay. Also watch out for cable space.

Considering that millions of people do it, including myself, I highly doubt there is any issue with low profile wall mounts. They have air ALL around them and they are still an inch or two from the wall. No worries.

Roger that. I'll only have 1 HDMI cable going to the TV.
 
I have a plasma on a low profile wall mount. You may want to get a right angle adapter or an hdmi cable with a right angle plug since it seems like this isnt usually accounted for. Even with the low profile mount, there is enough room to use a standard hdmi cable without interfering with the wall. Just remember to plug the cables in before you hang it on the mount.

I think I bought mine through amazon. It was ~$25and has worked great.
 
I think the kuros hdmi ports face down, not back, iirc. So an adapter shouldn't be needed.

Low profile mounts usually limit the amount of tilt and are cramped for cable routing(if it is a tilt mount, not a flat mount).

These omnimount low profile mounts are excellent, but might be above the your price point by a few orders of magnitude.

Just remember, when you start getting into low profile mounts more things can start to get in your way. If you have an outlet behind the TV it may need to be moved, or swapped to a recessed outlet. The length of you cable may need to be adjusted depending on where it needs to exit the wall.

Plan before you start throwing bolts in the wall, consider there the brackets on the TV will wind up in relation to the wall and where cables will be routed. And as always, measure twice, cut once. A half hour of planning will avoid 2 hours of "fixing".

Not all Kuro's, but I believe he has the 101FD which is a monitor and those ports do in fact point down, which is great for low profile wall mounting.
 
You're going to be drilling some pretty big screws into the walls so make sure your landlord/apt management will allow it. A wall mount installation will look best with no cables showing but this will require a good amount of cutting into the walls.

I didn't wall mount my 54" until I bought my house. At the height the tv was at I had to drill through the horizontal brace to get the cables to the bottom. It was a total PITA.

I don't plan on running the cable in the wall, most likely just get a raceway and paint to match.

As far as the screws, nothing a little spackle and paint can't fix.
 
I have both my LCDs mounted on monoprice wall mounts and they've worked great. Monoprice provides an assortment of different-sized screws to fit different TVs. I had bought two identical mounts for use in two different rooms. The screws provided in one of the mounts fit my 4 year old LCD fine, however, I had to go to Ace Hardware to buy different sized screws for my new HX929. Make sure you do not use a screw which is too long for your Kuro to attach the mounts to the back of the TV or else you might mess up your TV.

Also, when mounting the backplate to the wall, make sure you drill pilot holes first to ensure you don't snap any anchor screws going into a wall stud.

I don't remember any that were down facing, but I most likely just don't remember. I never saw any of the last half generation models.

Anyway, a good cable management plan is always important, you gust get more "wiggle room" with some configurations.

I still regret not getting a kuro when I could... damn panasonic accommodations.
 
I am so glad you posted this OP. I moved into an apt about 2 months ago and my gf still has my Kuro 5080. I just don't have the space for it on the stand it's using. Only option is to wall mount it, but I've been questioning which mount to get for it.

So the Monoprice one for $40 is about the same as say a Sanus or an Omni that are $200? I need an articulating one that I can rotate 90 (or close to 90) degrees from the mounted wall. I don't want it sagging or anything when it's extended either which has been a concern.

No. You get what you pay for, but that's not saying the Monoprice mounts are bad. I'm sure it will hold your TV just fine, it's just very basic mount. My favorite mount is the Sanus LT25 tilting mount. Excellent construction and the virtual axis is pretty kick ass.

The Sanus full-motion mounts are pretty cool too. But the virtual axis is the real selling point with them too.

I wouldn't trust a single arm like the one I posted to a 90 degree angle. Try to find a two arm that does a full 90 degree.
 
I used the low profile Monoprice mount on my 47" and a small Ikea table.

The electronics are in the basement closet via IR repeater.

Not a Kuro (although I almost pulled the trigger when they were clearing out the 60"s @ $2400), but it works.......for now....
