Wal-Mart workers charged in cat shooting

I'm so proud when my hometown makes the national news like this! /sarcasm

I almost posted this last night, but figured ATOT would be all over this (animal cruelty).

Getting rid of the cat by shooting it is extreme enough. What really pisses me off is what I heard on the local news. The store manager told them to get a gun and "get rid of it." You would assume they would have gotten a rifle or another real gun and done it. No, they get a BB gun and shoot it repeatedly over the course of a few days, finally killing it.

Got a link for that? If that's true than I would fully support the animal cruelty charges. If that's not the case, I think the charges are BS. Wal-Mart will obviously fire them regardless, but if they killed it with an appropriate weapon I see no problem.

That's pretty redneck.

Instead of calling animal control, let's just shoot it!

That's exactly what I said when I saw it on the news.

It's ok! It's just like squirrel huntin'. I can shoot them damn critters faster than they can run! EARL! Where's my shotgun!?

Thats what they said on the news. I haven't looked at any news articles yet.

Police say the men admit to using a pellet gun out of the store case to shoot the cat four times -- over a span of two days -- and then putting the dead cat in this box -- covered in shrink wrap -- and dumping it at a home in Warrick County.

Did you ever think that these guys didn't have a license to use a real gun. They would have been in even bigger trouble.

Now that said, am I the only one that thinks it's rediculous that this is a federal crime.

You don't need a license in IN to own a gun.

And this is terrible. I can't feel much outrage over which government prosecutes them, much less getting a stiff sentence. I'm biased because I love cats.

I think any manager telling their employees to get a gun "to get rid" of a problem needs to be fired. Especially a manager at a retailer store.

Same.

Probably, but I'm for extremely tough sentences for people who are cruel to animals.

Did not know that, thank you for correcting me.

Amused, your love of cats shouldn't blind you to that fact that federal resources are being wasted in this type of case. It is ridiculous that cats, dogs or any other animal's human caused death would consititute a federal crime. This should be a state issue, and a state issue only.
