As I said before, Walmart being open on Thanksgiving is an asshole move and anyone who shops there on Thanksgiving is an asshole.

I won't shop ANYWHERE for ANYTHING on thanksgiving day, not even gas, if I can't plan ahead for my needs for ONE friggin day them I'm a lame ass dork, greedy shoppers and greedy corporations can fuck off, all of them..

As I said before, Walmart being open on Thanksgiving is an asshole move and anyone who shops there on Thanksgiving is an asshole.

Looks like you should be boycotting a lot more stores than Walmart. Like someone else mentioned, Walmart probably did this on short notice to match the competition who decided to open up Thanksgiving night. Stores open Thanksgiving day. Note that there is another page full of stores...it's not just that one page of listings.

Sure Andrew thanks for the heads up. Any non-essential business that is open on thanksgiving day are assholes and anyone visiting them are assholes.

Your "volunteering" would be meaningless as your being "told" your working thanksgiving, and what kind of "buddy" want's to leave his/her family to go hang at a Wal-mart on Thanksgiving day, as your "standby" geez, one fucking day of the year isn't asking for too much "happy family fun time" IMO..

You're not getting it. I was explaining how these whiners could take charge of their future, go the extra mile and get paid more and have a better job. Be the leader. If walmart won't give it to them, that experience would pay off in their next job as a guy who can be trusted to GET IT DONE, not WHINE about it.

I get the same thing from a buddy of mine, he's worked part time at UPS for 25 years and still wonders why he hasn't moved up. He's the same guy who ALWAYs complains about having to do anything extra..."that's not my job, how DARE they ask me to do anything extra, fuck them...I'm not going to do it and they can't make me!"

And he wonders why he's in the same job for 25 years.

I'll laugh my ass off if some of these "skilled" assholes in this thread, that say f the Walmart workers, jobs are outsourced to India and they find themselves being a door greeter at Walmart.

This. Most skilled work is being outsourced these days. The future is very grim as far as jobs go. Thankfully most of us will be at retirement point by the time it gets THAT bad, but it sure is not getting better. Companies downsize and outsource all the time, their billions are never enough they always want to make more. Not all people are working at places like Walmart because they want to. It's because it's the only thing they can get.

Also more stuff can be automated now. Look at cloud computing, as much as I hate using that buzz word, it's out there, and more and more companies use that instead of having internal IT staff.

Pretty sure that unemployment in engineering is still trivial. A specific field doesn't guarantee a person a well-paying job, but it improves one's odds many fold vs the unskilled.

So be the guy that builds the cloud. Adapt or die.

Well I know about that, we have one that is always broke, has kids, then skips out on volunteer overtime, I've nicely told him to don't bother asking me for any type of loan, ever. Seriously though, wanting to be off work with your family and friends one day a year isn't really "wining" IMO..

A lot of people work on Thanksgiving. :'(

I've spent years in Iraq and Afghanistan missing all the holidays. That's what I signed on for and that's what you the American people demanded of me. The workers at Wal-Mart are no different, they signed on to work there and the consumer-whore American has demanded they work on a Holiday.

Everyone bitching about Wal-Mart probably buys as much Chinese shit as any Wal-Mart patron. You can't complain about Wal-Mart and their employees when you put American manufacturing jobs on the chopping block by buying all that Chinese crap and fucking over your fellow American workers already.

America is filled with assholes like the ones in this thread that will bitch and moan about the plight of the American worker and then turn around and fuck over their fellow American when it comes to saving a buck for themselves. That's how you vote, stop buying the shit Wal-Mart peddles and they will adapt. Wal-Mart used to be all about Made in the USA. But that's not what Americans want.

So fuck yourselves, this is what you demanded and this is what you've been provided. Own it.

No one "demanded" anything, that's a nice convenient excuse from greedy corporate assholes. Kinda tough to NOT buy Chinese crap when every retailer carries guess what? "Chinese crap", I gladly support made in USA when it's possible..

Because they go home and watch TV.

The difference is someone who gets out of work, immediately goes to their next place they need a good position at - and they speak with the manager. That, or you go home and work on your resume for a week straight. Yes, even as a drop out student who goes to work at Walmart for his first career move CAN make a Resume. It's the first thing that says "I'm not a dumbass".

Completely agree with this quoted post. My girlfriends mother is a perfect example, works at Walmart for years and years. Yet complain and complain. Retail chains hire LEFT AND RIGHT. Because it's a HUGE turnover market for employees. Christmas time? They definitely need more workers around that time. But no... just sit at the same retail job for 10 years... of course the retail chain will take it - they aren't going to tell an experienced person to get a better job when you yourself are comfortable at the same level for 10 years straight.

I AGREE - but the problem with your statement is that those companies MUST keep making those billions. Why? Because thousands of investors are depending on. And unless you want those investors to jump shit (and thus kill off the entire company) - than you better do it. Now in reference to downsizing and outsource - that is simply cost related. When it comes to competition, if you want to compete, costs is just as much of a factor as your revenue!

So whats the only way to fix this? It is NOT to bitch and moan about companies like Walmart. If you want this fixed, there is one simple thing I can agree with Obama on: Make tax penalties for each outsource that you do.

fake edit: Also, I never shop at Walmart. Not so much for the company - in addition to not finding their prices to be any lower than other places - but really, I don't shop at Walmart because it's one hell of a filthy environment. The disgust that walks around there is enough for me to never contribute a dime.

Those positions do not deserve better pay / benefits. If they don't like it, they need to become skilled workers. There is no shortage of government-funded programs to help them gain usable skills.

Somewhat agree. I think if anything, people need to stop saying they deserve more money. If the dollar is dying from inflation, and if you as an unskilled worker need more money - don't bitch to your company. Bitch to your government to raise minimum wage. However, be prepared for a backlash - people like store clerks and salesmen will only be useful for so long. Ever been to Ikea? Yeah, all of them are only self checkouts. That could be so for Walmart if you push min wage too high.

It's not Walmart's fault that you are unskilled.
It's not Walmart's fault that the value of the dollar has gone down.
It IS however, your fault that you have been in the same place making near the same amount.

They had self-checkouts at the Wally near me, they were taken down 6 months later, seems some merchandise wasn't getting scanned...

i'm goin there. Whatever that makes me in someone's mind means nothing to me.

I agree it's not Walmart's fault. But reality is reality, everyone cannot just simply quite their jobs and make it rich somehow or by trying to follow traditional means to get there, life doesn't work like that, you should have learned such by now. There are countless people every year that try so hard, push through school and do nothing but struggle later in life working at place like Walmart or worse. Secrets of Success has no guarantee's.

Yeah, I know - but like I said, have you ever seen the xx year Walmart employee's tell you how they put so much effort into another job? Find things to put on a resume (or build a resume altogether), dress in a suit and go to a job fair, speak with the manager at another retail store, etc...?

All I hear is the same shit, leave with a 12 pack of beer, and watch X Factor or some other retarded TV-Show to end their every day.

edit: As much as I HATE Walmart, I can still stand up for them and say screw these people trying to unionize. Unions today are the biggest shit stain on this nations underwear. What was once for protecting human health of working in mining caves in excrutiating heat for over 12 hours straight - is now in the cooooooooooooool AC and not having enough coffee breaks. Suck my left nut, you put everybody who originally came up with the concept of a union to shame. I guarantee they are disgusted at the shit unions are for today.

A Wal-Mart opened up near me not long ago. I haven't been there yet. I shop at the Target 2 blocks away, or the Costco that's in the area. I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart, it's not the price, it's the people who shop there.

I said the same thing. In fact, those are the exact places I substitute too 😛 Just as much, it's the workers too in most of them. If you can't wear pants and have a half decent attitude, screw you.

Lulz. Target will also be doing black Friday on thanksgiving.

Your customers will dictate your hours and effort. They are the ones signing your paycheck.

This is a lesson to be learned very early in life. Sadly most will never get it. Not my problem, it's theirs.

Such a sad, angry little man.

Do you even know why you're getting upset about this?
