Actually, most of costcos sales are slowly marked up 6 weeks before the sale goes in, and the sale price is only 1-4% lower than their normal price.

And you know this how?

I work for sams club, we watch costcos prices carefully for competition puposes.

As for merchandise quality, yeah costcos Gatorade, Welchs Juice, V-8, Michelin Tires, Bounty Paper Towels, Breyers Ice Cream, Compaq and HP PCs, Lexar flash memory... etc... must be higher quality at costco...

Its all name brand merchandise, and Sams Generics are MADE BY THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE NAME BRANDS.

So are Costco's.

So that would be the same quality merchandise... being as it is the EXACT SAME MERCHANDISE...

Now, im still young enough to not have to do my own shopping, however, Wal-Mart does bring two things together: conveniance and savings. It appeals to the new American. Everyone is so concerened with money that they work more hours to make more money. Therefore conveniance is a plus. Everyone wants to save up money to buy cool stuff like a better car, or tv. So saving on everyday things like groceries and household items is also another plus. Now, i assume the OP is a very hardworking person who worked hard to get where they are today. However, saying what utimately is a conveniance, will make all your hard work go to waste is a bunch of BS...

I think some of you have a have an incorrect interpretation of my views on Wal-Mart. I do not hate them. To some extent, they have a function. If someone cannot afford to shop somewhere else then they need to shop somewhere, right? Our decision to move further out was based on the ability to either afford 2/1 w/ 1200 SqFt in a high-crime area or 4/3 home w/2000 SqFt in a low-crime area for the same amount of money. We do not enjoy the commute, but we make it to live in a better environment. Why is that so bad?

And it is not the existence of Wal-Mart that bothers me, but that they are taking the Waffle House approach and putting one at every exit on the interstate. If someone is traveling by car (no bus routes out by me) then is it all that difficult to take one exit up/down the interstate instead of a Wal-Mart on every exit?

And yes, I do see this as being a bad thing as it was not really made known to those in the area unless you proactively monitored every project submission the county had to make note on. This meant that no one in the area was consulted as to whether 'they' wanted the Wal-Mart in the first place. And yes, at least one county commissioner remarkably owns one of the largest grading companies in the state--coincidence? Maybe convenient.

Anyway, its one thing if they went public with the 'idea' and asked those living in the area if they 'wanted' a WM on every exit and in particularly at this exit, but surprisingly they didn't. Not only that but no signs of a zoning change, which was necessary, didn't even get publicly posted (as required) until after they already graded the area. And with talking with several neighbors in the area, they all do not want it.

BTW, I do not live or use the country club. I do not drive an SUV or luxury vehicle. I do carpool in order to better afford (financially) the commute. And a devaluation on personal property is not going to be offset by WM pricing. I've got four neighbors already posting resale signs as a result of this, and in a subdivision not even finished. I took the WM invasion as rumor a couple of weeks ago, but its not rumor anymore.

Personally, I think you're being duped by Walmart haters with Chicken Little stories.

I don't think your property will lose any value at all. In fact, I'll bet that more convenient shopping will increase your property values.

* Wal-Mart, the company that wrapped itself in the American Flag, is so patriotic it runs a Buy Mexican campaign.
* Wal-Mart sold fake Tommy Hilfiger apparel to consumers after a judged ordered the company to stop.
* Only 38% of Wal-Mart employees have company provided health insurance--compared to a national average that shows 60% of employees are covered by company plans.
* After the FTC charged Wal-Mart with not identifying the country of origin on apparel items listed on its Internet sales site, Wal-Mart removed the items, apparently preferring not to disclose where the clothing was made.

Your bullet points are very appealing, especially given the lack of context. Most of those can be chalked up to human error, are exaggerated, or don't really matter at all. The only one that is a REAL problem is number one, and they got fined.

boo hoo hoo. walmart isnt the first company to outsource. look of freaking hp and thayt P.O.S. DELL. It's a golbal economy now and no matter how huch yuo B&M nothing is gonna chance. what? just cause you stop 1 walmart being built, you're gonna stop 300 other companies from making stuff in china or india? It's beeen happening lon before walmart entered the game and it's just gonna continue.

who the fvck cares? basically, yuo are saying"Screw those dam asian bastards stealing our good old american jobs. who cares if they are devloping a economy and brings lower prices at the same quality? I only buy made in america cause im an a55h0le like that."

besides al that you quoted is out of context. just cause they have a few bad employees out of like a hundred thousand, they are automatically horrible? all you people should stop b&m. what about the lack of pay and benefits? the employees didnt like working there, they can get another job. America is too full of people that just get themselves into a crappy situation, blame someone else and start a frivilous lawsuit. nio wonder crap like insurasance rates are so high and new technologies are rarely tested here, but in eureop where the people dont complain and sue so much.

you remind me of that one woman that sued mcdonalds for giving her hot coffee.

i also never understood why people hate walmart so much.
if i need to buy something, i shop. if it's cheaper at walmart, i go to walmart. if it's cheaper somewhere else, i go somewhere else. end of story.

How to destroy Wal Mart:
Step 1: Smash mirror in back of store
Step 2: Run like hell
Step 3: Profit

Guess what, nitwit? You'll ALWAYS lose money in this situation, with or without Walmart! WTF would somebody pay you any more for an existing house, in the same developement they can buy a brand new one?

Lord knows, their Pennzoil, Colgate, General Mills, Stanley tools, Canon, Winchester, Nintendo, and thousands of other brand name products, aren't NEARLY the same quality you'd get from your local yuppy emporium.

Any reseller who charges much more for a product than Walmart, is a yuppy emporium, and their customers deserve to be fleeced! Walmart's customers certainly DO NOT receive products inferior to those sold at the higher price, because they're EXACTLY the same!

Hell, it's probably even easier to return or exchange those products at Walmart to boot!

Thank you Sam Walton:laugh:

I don't recall saying that I didn't purchase cheap ass chinese goods myself and IMO Wally World has the best prices on them.

they have everything i seem to need, and dont charge mych for it, they are all teh same so everything is in the same place when i go there, and i can buy in bulk which is cool

and the 24 hour ones will sell you DVDs and Games at midnight the day the come out

f Wal-Mart.

I hate them. Usually dirty stores, very poor customer service - seems like they hire only the most incompetent cashiers, awful grocery services - deli, the lack of a meat market, the produce usually blows, lack of selection - they have a lot of stuff but it is just a truckload of a few different things. I really do not think their prices are mind blowingly low compare to other places.

I could care less if you Wal-Mart fans shop there, but I would rather pay a few cents more on each item and shop at a clean store with competent employees that has a decent selection of goods - chiefly Super Target, but I do my shopping at Costco and some other local grocery store chains.

It's not WalMart's fault your town has something in the water.

I prefer Costco over Wally World but I don't mind Wally World, especially the Super Center in Southern New Hampshire (Cheap prices and no sales tax) That store is clean and their grocery dept is well stocked and very reasonably priced.

Of course I'd never even consider working for Wally World but would consider working for Costco (Better wages and Union)

What the lame is that drivel supposed to mean?

Anyhow, the only Wal-Mart store that I do occasionally go in is their neighborhood market cornerstore thing, can't remember exactly what they call it, but it is just a regular "normal" grocery store without the non-grocery type items.

Again, Costco is not comparable to Walmart. Costco is a membership driven warehousing business, Sams Club is what competes with them.
