Wal-Mart > Target

Well, went back to my home town for the extended weekend (fall break at college) and finally got around to shopping at the new Target. The first thing I noticed is that it is very similar to K-Mart, it did not have as large of a selection as the Wal-Mart Super Center. Here is a breakdown of my thoughts.

Pros
[*]StarBucks (but WTH is a star bucks doing in a department store?)
[*]Quiet, it was FAR quieter than Wal-Mart, no annoying music playing or people yelling over the speakers.
[*]Less crowded, far fewer people around than Wal-Mart, parking was slightly better (it is located in a shopping center, so the stores around it kind of filled up its parking lot).
[*]No one stood in the aisles socializing like they do at Wal-Mart, everyone was very focused on getting in and getting out.

Cons
[*]Prices are higher than Wal-Mart, bought the same items that I always do and it was about 10%-15% higher overall than Wal-Mart. The ONLY thing that was cheaper at target was my low carb food bars.
[*]Smaller selection than Wal-Mart.


I am a cheap ass, so price is the final line. But, I could see why people would shop at Target to be less annoyed, it certainly is less overwhelming than Wal-Mart. I predict that due to the fact that the Target gets so little business in my home town (Wal-Mart is across the street, seems like the only time people are at Target is when the Wal-Mart parking lot is full). Wal-Mart killed K-mart a few years back in my home town, they can do it again.
 
Target has nicer things than Wal-mart. Not nice things mind you, but not bottom of the barrel like Wally World.

but i agree. at least around where i live the wal-mart is far better then Target.

Same here, also, a lot of items at Target here are actually cheaper than they are at Wally World. Target always has awesome buy 1 get 1 free deals on the Softsoap body wash I use.

Classier looking, anyway. It's basically still the same cheap Chinese crap that you would get at Walmart, though.
 
For most things, Target here is far superior to WallyWorld. Cleaner, better selection, more knowledgeable/helpful employees, and oten cheaper on many things. PLUS, you don't have to deal with the toothless old "okie" at the door..."Haih, wailcome to walmart"...seems like no matter where it's at, WallyWorld always has a greeter who sounds like he/she's right out of Arkansas...

Yeah, if you're gonna buy clothes or something...

That being said, I go to Wal-mart for househould supplies, pantry items, etc. Seeing as how these are usually national brand items with no variation from store to store, price is king. And even store brand stuff is pretty much the same anyway.

I don't give a #&@! how swanky Target store are, I'm not gonna spend 15% more money when I have like 2 Wal-marts within earshot of me that have the same damn stuff.

As for courteous staff, pff. That's what self checkout is for 😀
 
How can you guys shop at Walmart with all those long checkout lines? Is your time and sanity not important to you?

Not every Wal-Mart has the same volume of traffic...DUH!

I never wait in line more than a few minutes when at Wal-Mart and 75% of the time I go through self checkout which is normally empty.

hell the wal-mart is faster then the target here. at walmart they have 15-20 cashier stations open. At the Target they have maybe 3. the wait is usually longer at target.

ad in that its 15% more, less choice on products (and that is saying a lot since even wal-mart sucks in that).

only postives is its less busy and a nicer store.
 
Wal-mart is, IMO, gross, and I find the stores and most of the customers really unpleasant to be around. Target nowadays actually has a lot of really attractive, high-quality housewares and small appliances, and the larger Super Target stores have really nice little grocery sections, including a wide selection of organic goods and high-end items like aged steaks. Target is really cheap for more routine items, and honestly I don't care if Wal-Mart is cheaper still, given how much I hate shopping there. Saving $0.10 on a stick of deodorant doesn't outweigh having to wade through all the trashy people who seem to shop Wal-Mart IMO.

Seems like Wal-Mart shoppers, in general, have the most unruly children too, at least it was that way, when I lived in Washington state. I haven't really been in many of them in Ca.

I cant stand walmart. The amount of trash in that store, people and products, makes me sick. The store itself is dirty. When I leave it feels like im leaving a good will or salvation army; I feel the need to wash my hands.

Target is clean, they have clean people working there, they have decent quality stuff, their prices are higher but there decent and most importantly I dont feel the need to wash myself when I leave.

I'm embarrassed every time I walk into a Walmart (which is never). I hate that store. I don't really like Target either. Costco FTW.
 
Agree with the walmart is dirty comments.

Also, while I don't expect to "relax" while shopping at either, the dirty/loud/cramped/pseudo-white trash/ghetto walmart near me makes the whole shopping "experience" stressfull and makes me not want to go there.

Where as when I go to target, I could spend hours going up and down nearly every isle.

Aw, don't feel too embarrased, Muffin.

By the way, Target is cleaner and more classier looking, but I think Wal-Mart has more choices. I go to Wal-Mart Supercenter to buy groceries because Food-Lion is expensive. I don't know if there are any Target Supercenters nearby, so I go to Wal-Mart.

I agree that the lines are long and it is not as neat or organized as Target.

Wallmart
-Filthy store
-Cant walk down an isle without smelling someones BO
-Kids in walmart drive me insane
--I saw one lady watch her kid sneeze on a product and just put it pack on the shelf DIDNT EVEN WIPE IT OFF
--There loud little fockers
--Parients let them run around like college kids on adarol
-Quality of products blows

Target
-Clean as heck
-Never smelled BO in the store
-Rarely do I see people with unruly kids
-Nice quiet shopping experience
 
Wal-Mart to me, is kind of like K-Mart used to be. You don't want to be seen by anyone you know, driving into their parking lot. I would hate to be going such a place and see a co-worker, or neighbor pass me, as I was turning in there. 😉
