You don't see anything self-serving about this?

At the end of the day any charitable work done by a corporate entity is going to be somewhat self-serving/self-promoting. But so what? Let them toot their own horn for doing something nice. At least they are doing it. I don't see Pfizer or Glaxo doing it.

Thats because they offer good health insurance at a rate the employees can afford. So a large % of their employees don't have to use the Gov.

I worked at GSK before.

What does that have to do with anything? WalMart isn't doing this for their employees. They are helping low income families.

The cynic in me says this is just PR for WalMart, and if they were really passionate about kids getting proper medical care, they could start by offering decent health insurance to their legions of workers. But that would cost whole lot more than a few free lawyers.

The less cynical part of me says good for them. Medicaid can be an absolute nightmare of paperwork.
It is PR, and a means to get the government to pay Wal-Mart for the drugs these kids apparently need. Wally is not doing this for any other reason than to help their customers find a means to pay Wally for the drugs.

My bet is that walmarts wages are so low that families will qualify for medicaid because of that. This PR move addresses the problem that those employees can opt out of their in-house insurance program which ultimately saves them money.

Total guess on my part, though.

This. People who are on Medicaid are very likely to use Walmart as their pharmacy.

As well as they run their business they could probably do a better job of medical care than Big Brother could ever hope.

I don't understand why everyone is upset that Wal-Mart is doing something that is mutually beneficial for thier customers and themselves. Can someone please explain? Does it not count if you get some kind of gain from being charitable?
