I moved to chicago from Ohio recently, and went to walmart last night about 2AM. It was closed. In all my life, I've never been to a walmart that was not open 24 hours. So I drove to another one 20 minutes away that I recalled seeing earlier in the day, and it was closed too. WTF is this sh*t? Is this only around chicago or are the majority of wal marts not open 24 hours a day? :|

i think when wally world first came to KT it wasn't open all night. of course, they sold hamsters back then. maybe they had to turn the lights off so the hammies would wake up? the ones i use here in a-town are 24 hours... what else would i do at 5am?

A few years ago (before the SuperCenter's became the norm) a lot of Wal-Marts around here would close around 10:00 or midnight. Most of them (even the non-SuperCenter's) now stay open 24 hours. Some of ours will occasionally close on Sunday nights at 10:00 which is very frustrating because that's about the only time I'll go them anymore as Wal-Mart has become FAR too crowded IMO and is not worth the hassle for the savings unless I'm spending over $75-$100.

Many of our stores in Northern Virginia used to be open 24/7: Wal-Mart, the Staples store at Tyson's Corner and the Home Depot stores. However, about the only things open on a 24/7 basis lately seems to be the 7-11 stores and a few of our grocery stores. Wal-Mart closes down at midnight.

I'm sure our lower than average unemployment rates had a lot to do with the closures. Most of the businesses can barely find enough people to work the regular shifts and I'm sure most places were hurting to find sufficient staff to cover the off-hours.

In my area of NJ Walmarts were open 24/7, then one day they decided it wasn't worth it, so they've been closing at 11 for the past few years.

i am a night person. i absolutely detest shopping at walmart during the day.

its more of a thing like, i've been conditioned to be being able to get anything I need from local walmarts, anytime of the day, so I dont specifically make trips during the day because I know I can always go later during the night. I thought ALL walmarts were open 24 hours a day. Now, I move here and apparantly there isnt a single walmart in chicago open 24 hours a day. I don't understand.

Besides, I wanted to go tonight and it was only 12:30, i wanted a bag of haribo gummy bears and only wal mart carries them. :( stupid walmarts around here. :|

I hate Walmart - too hard to find stuff, too damn dark, and too many damn people. The lines there are insane - the past 3 trips there I've had to wait 20 minutes in line for like one or two things. This was at: 9pm, 1:30am, and 3:30pm - all different times of the day (and early morning). Thanks but I'll stick to Super Target.

A super target here would be nice. All the Walmarts in the area at one point in time experimented with being open 24 hours. None of them kept it. Guess it's too expensive without having chinese slave labor work the store. :|

ok Evil-Mart Rant.......

"Ok, I think I'll buy BF1942..."
1) Enter's Evil-Mart parking lot....crowded, parks in the back 40 (It's not worth circling 15 mins for a space 10ft closer like the old ladies do....)
2) Stomach starts turning as I realize I detest this place
3) WTF? I thought I said I was never going back in the crap hole place.....(slaps self with big dead frozen tuna)
4) Go to the very far corner of the SuperEVIL Center, cause that's where what you want/need always is....
5) No BF1942!!!
6) SCREAMS......they never have what you really want......
7) Looks at computer hardware for a good laugh about the "Always Low Prices..." 16x10x40Phillips for $80????
8) Hears infamous..( "ALL SECURITY CAMERA'S ON AND ROLLING IN ISLE 5".....)
9) Walks out of store not believing people actually like to shop here....
10) Swears to never return...

Other times you can just do steps 1-3, add in "gets to the back of the store to get 5 items, and realizes can't really carry them all, but detests getting a shopping cart, so carry/juggles 10 items to the front of the store, waits in the "express lane" for 20 mins....behind the lady with 200 itmes, in the "12 itmes or less line"

Conclusion.....I hate Evil-Mart

I think all of them here are open 24 hours. They're all SuperCenters, though, and I'm pretty sure that has something to do with it, although I'm not positive. I avoid Wal-mart as much as I can.

The goal of Walmart Supercenters is that every sing supercenter stay open 24/7. I work at a very small supercenter and it stays open 24/7 and thats when the real scarries crawl in to work and stock shelves (not all of them but a bunch). Not all of the Supercenters are open 24/7 because of some special condition/location, etc.

We do sell BF 1942. I know because I put it out on the shelves for like $39.96. When have you ever seen a security camera rotate;) Really though they do have cameras freakin all over the place. Our store has crazy amounts of cameras, kinda like a casino but we have so much theft, comestics was a real killer.
