Don't know what to think of this. they just had a nice mall open up near where I live and now on the news they said wal mart wants to move into the area. There is another mall with a target and best buy less than a mile away.

It will definetly bring in shoppers, but I don't know if I want wal mart shoppers where I live.

my store is right across the street from wallmart and my stupid old assistant manager always calls it "Wall Marks".

we just look at him and smile.

My parents live in Elmhurst, right by Queens Center. I lived there for almost 20 years as well. I used to consider that mall pretty crappy compared to other malls in NY and NJ. Little did I know how much revenue that place generates.

When measured by sales per square foot, Queens Center Mall is the nation?s most profitable, ringing up $935 in sales per square foot. The formula, company officials said, was to increase the total square footage from 620,000 to nearly one million.

I guess the NY street vendors will now have some serious competition selling all that cheap Chinese crap.

after the renovations it actually looks pretty nice, altho they took away the parking lot...and now have to pay crazy parking fees to shop in that damn mall...

- they don't have chinese crap at walmart

- like traffic isn't already terrible around there...

Why don't they just build the West Side Stadium near the FDR and put the Nets in Crooklyn and make it impossible to go anywhere in a car altogether ?

What happened to the new school that was built on the corner of the old parking lot?

Traffic on the LIE will suck even more. Although usually it's not that bad. I never had problems on Queens Blvd though.

If this is the same Queen's mall I went to in the summer (it's about a 5 minute drive from Queen's Blvd), it was under renovation.... wasn't a bad looking mall though.

70% of what Wal-mart sells is produced in China. Likely to low standards by slave laborers.

I feel so unfortunate as I have never been to a Wal Mart. Until The Simple Life, I had no clue what it was. 😱

they just remodeled it and doubled the size. They brought in Urban Outfitters, Banana Republic, Club Monaco and a bunch of other nice stores

Wal-Mart in NYC is the death of all small businesses.

Agreed. People should band together and fight against that crap. Cheap prices aren't the end all, be all in life.

I don't really care about the small businesses since I don't I don't buy too many things from them in the area. My worry is that it's not going to raise property values to the level that some other business may. Within 1 mile of where I live there already is a circuit city, bed bath and beyond, sears, best buy, target, macy's, and a bunch of other national retailers.

I took it to mean chinese trinkets (sp?) because of the street vendors comment.

Walmart is like a weed

No, weed is good 😀

Anyway, get ready to see people the likes of which you've never seen before in the city. Straw hats, overalls, buck teeth... it's quite a show, and it's free to boot, though it can be hard to resist buying something.
