Waking up tired

I get 5-6 during the week and by thur/fri I battered. I fall asleep for 5-10mins on the 25min train and it feels like ive been asleep for 3-5hrs 🙂

Last week I was asleep for 20mins and it felt like 6hrs 🙂 felt so good waking up.

But man when I get sleep on my weekends I feel a lot better waking up. I still feel shattered later on due to lack of caffeine. I have about 4cups at work and none on weekends which miss me up!

He's not lazy. Look at his other thread. He has no motivation, no ambition, no desire, and can't get out of bed in the morning. He's depressed as hell and whether that depression is systemic (lots of people lose motivation around 18 - 20) or caused by something else, he needs to figure that shit out before it completely consumes him.

Waking up tired has to do with waking up early. Most people aren't morning persons. Nobody actually wants to be at work at 8:00am, yet everybody does it because we have to, but I'm sure even the ones that say we have to don't want to be up that early themselves.

I say the standard work shift should be 12:30 to 9:00. I had to work that shift for a few months at help desk and it was AWESOME. Sleep in, go to work AWAKE, work for about 4-5 hours, take a break to eat something, work for the rest of the shift, go home while it's still not THAT late (though it's dark) then have a ton of time to do whatever you want till 4:00am or so, wake up next morning, awake, repeat... Was awesome. I found myself more productive during that shift. Not only more productive at work, but at home. (programming projects, etc). I would so jump on the opportunity to do that shift again. Even 11:00 to 7:30 would be pretty decent.
 
I was consumed by a similar problem a few years back. I was already diagnosed with depression so they wanted to pin the low energy on that. After trying every supplement known to man I went for a sleep study. They diagnosed me with narcolepsy. I always thought that people with narcolepsy just fall asleep like in the movies. Not so. My condition is one of excessive daytime sleepiness. It is where you sleep 8 hours, get up , and two hours later you REALLY want to go back to bed. It is almost overpowering. If you have ever worked nights and wanted to just go to sleep, that is how it feels, but all day long.

The results from the study showed that my brain doesn't do the normal sleep cycle. Instead my brain goes right to REM sleep as soon as I fall asleep skipping the early cycles. I went through drugs like provigil, concerta, and now am taking straight amphetamines. It works okay, but wears off in the afternoons. The dr suggested upping the dose, but I don't want to get addicted to the stuff, so I stay at 20mg.
 
Actually do you drink pop before bed? Avoid doing that. I've cut down on pepsi in past few months, I keep it for weekends only, I find I'm a bit more awake in the morning and more tired at night. Being tired at night is key, as you will actually get a better sleep. If I go to bed untired then I don't fall asleep until a few hours have passed, then I'm tired in the morning. No matter what you will always be tired - it's morning, but using tips such as the ones in this thread may help reduce it at least.

On the off chance I sleep for a long period of time, it's always very restful (unless I've been drinking). This is probably because I usually can't sleep, or at least not enough. I've gone to bed after 24, 36, 48 hours awake... and woken up after 1-2 hours, unable to fall back asleep. And that's if I get to sleep in the first place. I've tried pretty much everything out there, otc, rx and illicit. The only thing that works is marijuana, but I live in the land of the free, so it's illegal to cure myself 🙁

I used to feel the same way.... until i went to the doctor.

i was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea...
during the sleep study, they found i had 5,000+ Hypopnea events, during a 6 hour period.
basically.. i would stop breathing or have extremely shallow breathing periods 5,000 times during the night. this causes an interruption in your sleep cycle and does not permit you to enter the REM state, which allows for 'restful' sleep.

To put this into perspective, there are 21,600 seconds during a 6 hour sleep cycle.
Every 4 seconds.. i would stop breathing.

i was placed on a CPAP machine and have not slept better since.

i would definitely recommend seeing a doctor and having them do a sleep study on you.

-No caffeine after 2pm (assuming you go to bed at 10pm)
-No food after 7pm (same)

-Don't watch TV or anything in bed. Your bed is for sleeping.
-Take 3mg of Melatonin if the above still doesn't work.

He'll be so tired from taking massive dumps he'll sleep like a baby?
