Wait out this price increase?

So I was planning to buy a 3200+ winchester when they were a good $203 in newegg.com, but now all hell has broken loose and prices have gone up to $245. 🙁 I want this new pc built so bad, but I wonder how long it will take for prices to go back down. I have the ram, gpu, psu, case, and hdd's ready to go, damnit. What are your opinions on waiting for the price drop? Will I be waiting for a while?

They are $198 RETAIL BOXED at mwave.com.

Any CPU or Mobo combo should be bought there IMO. Just as good as newegg.

the maximum theoretical thermal power for a .09 core is 67.0w
the maximum theoretical thermal power for a .13 core is 89.0w

the thermal design power listed for the processor at mwave is for a .13 core processor

it is not a windchester

if you wanted the windchester I hope you didn't order that processor

i almost made the same mistake and if i would have i would of been throughly disappointed

happy hunting!!!

Seriously, this is about the 4th time people have done this... I thought AT members would be a bit more seasoned than to do this time and time again...

the 3000+ just went up 10 dollars from yesterday on new egg. any reasons for the price increase? should i get it while its still 153 on zipzoom or will it go down more in a month? thanks.

Erm, dumb question time (again). You referring to Drifter making a mistake, or Zebo?

Drifter. There is no 3200+ socket939 in the .13. None. Period. 3200+s come in 3 flavors: 1) 939 .09 2) 754 .13 512k L2 3) 754 .13 1meg L2

So if they can make 75% more cores from the same amount of material the old 0.13microns used....when are they going to sell enough chips to pay off the cost of R&D and transitioning to 0.09m so that the winchesters cost 25% of what the newcastles cost us?

bah just amortize it and give us our cheap cpu's! hehe

As long as supply is short, and since people are eating these up like candy it looks like it'll stay that way in the short term at least, you'll see supply and demand running smoothly (i.e. price increases until there is more of a surplus). You might want to wait a little until the prices stabilize a bit, at least until after Christmas.

And I'm not sure of the exact numbers myself, so you could be right boatillo, but keep in mind the % yield per run on the 0.9's is likely lower than that of the 0.13 due to manufacturing defects which are in turn due to the relative immaturity of the process. But again, you might be right, I haven't looked at any hard numbers myself. In any case, you're not likely to see significant price drops. First, you'd cut heavily into AMD profits if they actually sold it anywhere near what the chips cost. Second, they don't want to undercut their own 754 processors and even 939 0.13's until that stockpile has been more or less depleted.

Yup, looks like I will be waiting until after xmas to buy my winchester as prices are starting to get ridiculous lately (that and most big sites are running out of them!)

monarch's 3200's went from like $179 - $196 or something (OEM) and neweggs have gone up even more! sickening

Once the Christmas rush is all done, I'm sure price will go down slightly due to a decrease in demand. But hey, I guess stuff is almost always going to be cheaper/better down the line.

Yeah I could wait, but I have the Antec Sonata, Corsair ram, and everything else staring at me right here next to me. Must...build....soon 😀
