Hey guys... recently I was posting on building a new PC. I am going to at least get a 9500 Pro or perhaps a 9700 Pro, DDR Ram... 512 of that probably PC 2700 and at least a 1.5 GHZ processor, probably higher. My question is buy this now or wait... i've been thinking of waiting with the release of the Geforce FX and the coming of DDR2 Ram. Tell me what you think on this please, thanks.

The Geforce FX isn't worth waiting for. The 9700 Pro's are comparable in quality and speed, and at a lower price as well (plus they take up only one slot). DDR has dropped to prices I didn't think it'd see for at least a few more months, and Newegg regularly has Athlons of that speed on sale at very low prices. I don't see any reason to wait and give prices a chance to go back up.

Buy now, the prices are preparing for the next-gen of processors. The Barton debuts @ $600+ whereas Athlon XP's can be had for $50-100.

Buy cheap now, but upgrade frequently is more economical in the longrun than buy expensive now (And I mean expensive, because you pay a huge premium for state of the art), but upgrade less.

If you want the 512k cache and depending on availability of being able to buy it, I say wait.

Barton 2500+ (1.83 GHz) 333 MHz FSB can be had for a hair under $200 for Retail version.

Pricing.

I would wait until the new stuff is released and the prices on current products fall...

AMD XP 2600+, Asus nForce2 Deluxe mb, 1GB (2x512) corsair CS2 RAM, 2 (in RAID 0) WD 120GB SE 8MB drives, Radeon All in Wonder 9700 Pro, Audigy 2 Platinum eX

there's what I'm waiting to come down in price... with a wireless keyboard/mouse... nice modded case with ps, plextor 48/24/48 CDR/RW and DVD Slot Load brings the total to $2108.25. Toss in a Sony CPD-G520P and some Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's and we have a total of: $3125.79 ouch... but nice system! lol.
