I'm considering upgrading my piece of crap AMD K-6 400, but I don't know whether I should wait for DDR ram and boards to get more popular and buy a system that supports it when the prices come down. What do you guys think?

Build a system based off the KT133a chipset w/ some PC150 memory.

If you have the money, I say go for an AMD 760 based board..

as the past has shown, Via boards are somewhat.. less, when it comes to performance. perfect example? AMD 750 vs Via KX133!

though I hope AMD fixes that problem they had with their 760 (limited to 2 slots), perhaps we'll see an 'upgraded' version of the 760?

or if you REALLY want to go nuts, get a 760MP! multi-processing!!

I think it really comes down to cost. I just bough an Iwill KA266 DDR board because I am tired of waiting and I want to upgrade now. I bought DDR SDRAM with it. A non-DDR 133 FSB machine would have been much less, since the mobo and RAM as priced much higher now. If you want to save money I would get a KT133a board now with PC133/PC150. My guess is that DDR will be popular and cheap soon, it is popping up all over the net.

Remember that nobody is showing that DDR system are much faster than PC133. Just a little. The hope is that later you will see improvement with better chipset, BIOSes and software.
