Wait For Conroe or Get a 4600+/4200+?

After hearing of all these dumb delays for Conroe, I've been reconsidering buying it. Originally, I wanted to buy a Core Duo 2 Chip right after I built the rest of my system in 2 or 3 weeks, but with the price hikes and delays predicted by some forum members, I've started to reconsider AMD, especially considering the fact that their next-gen K8L procs will be compatible with current AM2 mbs.

Now, should I get a cheap processor like the 805 now and upgrade to Conroe later or just get the AMD 4600/4200? Will there be a great difference between the Core Duo 2 and the X2s at 1680x1050 resolution in games?
Also, which would you recommend if I went the AMD way, the 4600+ or the 4200+?

Dumb delays?

Aside from the recent 5 day delay rumors, a July 23rd launch is still expected.

Wait till the end of the month, and compare them.
Massive price cuts will be in effect, and C2D will be available.

Patience is a virtue. :D I can't stress that enough.

why would you say that? intel has large chip production and should be able to keep their word. When AM2 released there was only 1 week of wait coz of demand. intel has larger fabs so should be able to do it in 23/7

Wether you go with AMD AM2 or Intel's Conroe there's an expected big price drop for both (and some older existing chips) come end of July so if you want to save some money wait it out.

Not 100% sure on this but I don't think K8L will be compatible with AM2. Very misleading interview recently....

What was misleading about this interview? He said AM2 is quadcore ready - and K8L is AMDs native quadcore part.
