Wait a few weeks for a holiday phone release?

:woot: Hey guys just had a question. Right now I'm thinking of getting a HTC Incredible for $30 w/ a plan or a Droid X for $99. But I'm also hearing alot that a load of phones are coming out for the holiday season which will come with Android 3.0 Gingerbread. Do you guys think that would be a good move? What about price considerations? Do you think lettalk or wirefly usually have deals on new phones when they come out what will beat the prices at verizon retail stores? Thanks!

FYI-- there'll always be something newer and better out the second you buy something. Accordingly, your new device will be obsolete the moment you take it out of the store.

With that said, the Incredible lives up to its namesake and you won't be disappointed with it. I think I remember seeing it free with 2 year signup somewhere on Slickdeals a little while ago. May wanna see if you can find it.

😱 well google said after gingerbread they are down to 1 a year release instead of the blitz they've been on lately.

if a mod see's this please move over to mobile forum. sorry not sure if purchase advice counted as that category

Gingerbread is finished. Thing is that no one knows if it will be 2.3 or 3.0 or if its just for tablets or.....

Get whatever one you like best. The X is an awesome phone but Verizon is rumored to be launching at least 4 new Android devices within a few weeks. Letstalk will always have crappy phones.

Sorry. I was thinking about Walmart's cell service.

letstalk is a good website, just be warned that if you have an equipment issue, you're on your own. Eli has a thread over in GG&P that details what a mess it was to try to get his Droid replaced that he got through them.

All the national carriers will likely get some new phones for the holidays. Looking forward to see what launches. I'm in the mood to replace my Droid 1, but there's no way I can buy a phone that I cannot mod and hack.

HTC Incredible has an awesome root community. Lots and lots of ROMs and themes.

And powered by an antiquated 65nm Snapdragon, single core, an anemic GPU, and lacks a real keyboard. 😛

The multi-core devices coming down the pipeline should easily blow it out of the water. Heck, even Qualcomm's 45nm/Adreno 205 GPU takes its previous offerings to school.

Link showing release date for multi-core phones?

Its just rumors, nothing concrete. As we all know, carriers aren't going to spill the details on next gen devices until just before they launch. If you know you'd be able to get a multi-core smartphone in 2 months, would you bother buying any smart phones now?

There will be new phones from all the carriers launching for the holidays, whether they are multi-core or not is up for debate.

gigahertz phones are going to be obsolete pretty soon. 4g phone will have to be dual core. why would anyone want to be stuck with one of the current phones for the next 18 months?

? gigahertz phones have been out for more than 6 months, hardware is due for an upgrade soon. also once you have 4g, the current cpus would be very limiting. you disagree with that?

Yes because there are plenty of 4G phones out RIGHT NOW that are single CPU. I've yet to see a single dual CPU phone with a launch date. Even the Verizon LTE phones that are still in rumorville are only single CPU. Granted they are 2 GHz but still single core. Every phone that was rumored to have a dual core has come out with a single.

dual core or 2 ghz, whatever, much better stuff is due to be out very soon, certainly before the holidays. i certainly wouldnt blow an upgrade on a ghz phone at this stage, hell be weeping in dec
