As some of you folks may know, I have been on a life change for the past year.

August 2004 I was 390 lbs and hating life. Today I weighed in after having breakfast and a snack, and I weighed 289.5. And that is while still drinking over 128 ounces of water a day. I actually lost weight over the holidays.

How am I doing it? I have changed my eating habits, not going on a diet. I have eliminated sodas, and most of the bad cards. I have increased my meals from 3 meals a day to 6 a da, and I am constantly snacking on things like celery, apples, grapes, carrot sticks.

I spend 45 mins a day on my tread mill. plus I am chasing a 3 year old boy and 2 dogs around the housze and yard.

I feel 10 times better than I did, plus I sleep better at night because I also had the sleep apnia surgery back in July. So my body is now able to rest better at night.

Life is good again.

Do tell more.

Can you give some examples of meals you eat?
Did someone help you plan the diet or did you research it... using a nutritionist?

Glad to hear things are going well! Much luck on making that 2 a 1!

My breakfast meals are usually oatmeal mixed with applesauce and a protien shake made with skim milk and a bannana blended in.
Mid morning snack is a V8 juice, carrot and celery sticks,
lunch is a very large salad with baby spinach, carrots, fresh greens, yellow squash, cucumbers, and some sort of lean protien on it, like crab meat, turkey, ham, chicken.
Mid afternoon snack apple, orange, nuts.
Dinner is lean protien, like salmon, chicken, porkchop, etc. with a smal potato, mid sized salad,
late evening snack/desert Frozen yougurt, granola bar, fresh fruit.

Rather than eat 3 large meals, I eat a lot of small meats throughout the day. This has raised my metabolism, and allowed me to loose weight.

nice job. you weigh about as much as i do. i'm 6'6" though so it doesn't really show. i started a new training program this week. i'm going to train like a fighter and change up the diet entirely. i want to get down to 235. i know i can do it, because if i quit smoking 19 days ago then i can do this.

yeap. this is what i do. i have a bunch of small healthy meals. though i did go off it and was drinking way to much pop.

I got off the pop and back to 5-6 meals a day. so far i have only lost 10lbs but its only been 2 months heh.

but congrats! that is a huge amount to lose! hope you can get down below 200 and keep it off!

Because I am working out as well, I have had a Dr. do a body fat test. Right now if I reach my goal of 12-14% body fat, I will weigh 240. Because of my large size, I have also had to build up a lot of muscle to carry it. If I get below 200, then I will be at less than 2% body fat.

5'10"

BTW, I currently deadlift 650, bench 200, power sled 850, and squat 240. Each of the weights I do 3 sets of 8 reps. I have some huge quads and glutes. I carry a lot of muscle in my thighs.

Congratulations. I'd bug you about "looser" but it's a great thing you're doing, and I guess "looser" is still somewhat appropriate, as clothes are getting looser and looser :p

Keep it up!

I am so proud of people like you! Making a difference instead of blaming it on others. :)

No one is to blame but myself. Years of eating Mickey Ds, Wendys, etc.., No one made me stop there and no one held me down and force fed me those items.

Now If I can jsut stay with it. but, with people like you backing me up, I know I can.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

That's freaking AMAZING man. Keep it up. You're definately losing weight the way it should be done. You're making a life change which works probably 100 times better than dieting :D

I myself went through a similar situation though not nearly as drastic. I used to be a rower and tennis player throughout highschool and was in amazing shape. At the time I was 5'8 and weighed 150 lbs. Unfortunately laziness hit me throughout college and by the time I graduated I weighed around 190lbs (1 year ago) and had a not so flattering gut. I've made subtle changes to the way I live and am now at 160lbs.

kudos to you on sticking with it. Part of it is getting rid of the bad carbs, like what's in soda. The exercise is helping too.
