Well a 4 door where the hatch starts at the C pillar is also called a hatchback (or fastback?)

Yeah you can have hatches with more than just two doors. The Focus ZX5 is the personification of this.

Ugly but pretty practical.

That has a D pillar and the lift-gate goes all the way down to the floor. Meets my definition of a wagon. 😀

But its not a wagon. There is not "storage" behind the rear seat. There's a foot, maybe two, of room, thats not storage, thats leftover car. Storage would be a big enough area to put a few large dogs or 4+ large pieces of luggage, not just a set of golf clubs or a few bags of groceries. Thats why the pic JLee posted fail as wagon status just like this.

My dad owned two wagons, the above mentioned Mercury wagon and then a subaru GL wagon that was truely a long wagonish car.

This is a wagon

Edit: Compacts cannot be wagons either.

What is it that makes your personal opinion so much better than that of practically everyone else in the world, including Subaru?

Well, I can believe the last bit of that sentence...not so much the beautiful part. 😛

I wouldn't think so either, but a friend of mine did exactly that to an '83 model Caprice Wagon. It looks like it came straight off the factory floor - wood paneled sides and everything. I wish I had a pic of it to post...
