What makes a wagon and a crossover different?

Marketing geniuses

Kinda like another segment that used to not sell well here, hatchbacks. But if you call it a crossover.......

The marketing genuises have their work cut out for them re-branding wagons as something else.

Strange a wagon is re-entering the U.S. market...or maybe not. Maybe some people are tired of minivans and SUV/CUV's, but I really doubt it.

As an aside, about 40 years ago, I owned one of the larger behemoths on the road, a 1970 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon with a 390 V-8. Sucked gas like no tomorrow, but what I used it for--a cross-country jaunt sightseeing and camped in it--it worked well. Sold it after using it for two months. But damn was it huge. Over 18 ft. in length.

My wife hates SUVs and doesn't find CUVs to be any more roomy than a big sedan or hatchback so next family car is a luxury wagon since the closest thing available in the non-luxury segment is a Prius V. Get all the space with the plush nice interior without the feeling like you are driving a tank. Brand new V90 is out because of price but I am really hoping Volvo leases enough so I can get a CPO 2 years later. If there is a market where I might get lucky it's SoCal since luxury car leases are a dime a dozen here.

Your wife is the opposite of 99.9% of wives out there (under the age of 70).

It has taken me a decade to get my wife to like wagons...just when we need 3 rows. Can never win.

usually I'm not a fan of Infiniti styling, but that actually looks pretty good.

Lol I want a Volvo and I'm not old. I like to think it's just having good taste, not me being like an old guy lol

Only catch is, I've learned my lesson about buying first-generation hardware with my '15 Renegade. Would have to wait another year until the second model year version comes out, haha. Also, one review of the '17 V90 CC said the self-driving system randomly & unexpectedly changed lanes on them, fortunately they didn't hit anyone, but yikes!

^ Nice. The sport version of any wagon looks a hundred times better than the entry level model. The huge rims and extra bodywork shorten the long proportions. It's true of that Holden and it's true of the Buick in the OP. Dead sexy.

Kaido, the problem is FCA only makes crap

I haven't heard great reliability stories about Volvo though either. I mean they're still better than chrysler over all, but that's not saying much. From what I've read you need to jump ship once the warranty expires or get ready to pony up a lot of dough in repairs.

Is the Subaru Outback classified as a wagon or a jacked up wagon like the V90 cross country?

or subaru the Levorg

I test-drove one of those in March, and was blown away by how decent it was. No, not good, but worth so much more than the asking price was, when compared to German fare. The CVT was much better than a BMW's 8-speed ZF, and I was surprised how quiet it was at over 100mph. There was little wind noise, and the CVT killed engine noise completely. Almost E-class levels of noise-refinement. Sure, the electronics weren't great, button-fest in the center console, no fancy high-beam, only LED runners and Xenon normal lights.

But the package costs about as much as a Golf with the Cheat-Diesel and poverty spec.
Haven't quite lost interest yet, but changed company instead of changing company car.

My wife has a '15 Subaru with CVT (non-turbo). It's incredible. Honda's CVT stinks, Nissan's is pretty decent, and Subaru's is outstanding. One of the best transmissions I've used!

It's hard to belive in just a couple years it went from utter trash to decent?

I think 2014 was the redesign. Our '15 Subaru's CVT is really, really good.

The 9-speed auto in my Jeep is garbage.

I don't know if I trust you anymore. Everyone raves about Honda's CVT.
