Better tracking, much improved mouse (I actually prefer it to my system mouse), pen holder is built into top of tablet, better drawing surface, looks better.

Actually the pen is not attached to the graphire3, which was a very much unliked feature of the graphire2.

NewEgg link, for pics

Dang I wish the gray was the same price, so it would match my case.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. All of the tablets made have a wireless pen.
I'm talking about an actual holder built into the molding of the casing, that the pen can be inserted into when you aren't using it.
Much better than just a standalone pen holder.

Look at the pics from newegg, the pen does not attach to the board anymore, it has a standalone pen holder. I myself would drather have standalone holder.

there's a stand alone holder in the box, clear plastic, looks like a little inkwell... i got one on monday (the last saphire on the local cc had) by ordering on the web and picking up at store... the thing's pretty cool... a wireless mouse with no batteries... although the pad has to be plugged in to use it...

Look Winchester, not only do I own one, but I work for Wacom. There is a separate pen holder if you want to put the pen in that. The pen can also slide into the base of the tablet at the top. See that curved indent at the top? That's where a portion of the pen is visible if it's in the base. The original Graphire and Graphire2 don't hold the pen in the base and just in a pen holder, but you could attach the pen holder to the base.

holy crap! Wacom claims the resolution has been upped to 2000 dpi! Does this mean the mouse will effectively work at 2000 DPI? If so, that is one freaking accurate mouse for the price...

These tablets are great, but be warned: many people didn't get their rebates the last time this deal was on. Proceed with caution.

The tablet is worth every penny--- anybody that spends a lot of time on the computer should definitely get one... they're an excellent replacement for a traditional mouse (unless you're gaming), BUT don't tease yourself into thinking you'll get that rebate. In fact, why not just pricematch it to another B&M store and use a coupon if possible. I hate those lying rebate con artists with a passion. They shouldn't be allowed to keep getting away with the cr@p that they do.

I am not too savvy about these types of things. What would I use this for?

Photoshop, Painter, or any applications that requires precision. They take advantage of pressure sensitivity so it allows you to adjust brush thickness or opacity depending on how hard you press on the tablet. Actually any graphics ap that you want accuracy with would benefit with the tablet because of absolute positioning.

Office XP and 2003 allow for handwriting recognition. You can save in your own handwriting or have it converted to text.
Imagine trying to sign your name with a mouse. It's almost impossible compared to a pen.

Once you get used to the pen it actually becomes quicker than a mouse for normal desktop navigation.
It also saves on the strain caused by constantly clicking a mouse button.

The only thing that royally sucks with this is if you have a dual monitor setup. It is out of proportion unless you disable the 2nd monitor. The height is correct, but the width is not since it pans both monitors. I was trying to trace one of my drawings and took me a while to figure this out. I was about to break the pad I was so pissed. Anyway, just thought I would post in case someone else has the same problem.

Wish they had a solution to this problem.
