Ok, here's a new topic for you guys. I bet we haven't had anything like this, probably ever. Here goes.

Does anyone here know anything about raising Brine shrimp for fish consumption in a home aquarium? I am looking around the net for info as I type this, but I was hoping some people on this board may have experience in this. Thanks.

Brine shrimp is about the only thing that can live in the salty water of the great salt lake in Utah.It is a cash crop for the frozen brine shrimp you may have been using.
I attempted to raise my own years ago and found it not practical in that it required another tank and alot of baby sitting.My results were dismal.
If you want to do it in mass scale as a business interprise,that may be another matter.
There are books on doing it at your better pet stores.

I had a 125 gallon salt-water aquarium for 4 years...

brine shrimp are easy to raise... just take a 10 gallon tank and fill it with water from your ALREADY ESTABLISHED salt water tank. Keep the tank in indirect light, close to a window. I had mine in my bedroom. Dont put too much direct light on them, though a certain amount is good. Throw some stones from your ALREADY ESTABLISHED aquarium in the tank. Don't go crazy on the filtering for it, shrimp like it a bit raunchy.

I stopped using brine shrimp because the filter I had on the 125 gallon was too strong, so I had to stop the filter to let them feed, or they'd get sucked up right away. When I turned the filter back on, after about 45 min, the remaining ones not eaten would get sucked into the filtration mechanism, and would stink to high hell after a short period of time.

Overall, the experience of a salt-water tank is sooo much better than that of a fresh-water, but it is work.
