So I see a lot of these W8 tablets that runs on Z2760, which in reviews are piss ass slow.

Basically we have lots of sales guy that travels, carrying these thinner, lighter laptops that runs office are great but a bit slower than what I liked.

The thinkpad helix is great but its close to 2k when you add in extra warranty, etc.

Is there something in between these lower price w8 tablet but not 2k.. something in 1k area ?

I would recommend the Sony Vaio Duos, but if the Helix is too expensive, so is the Sony.

I think the pro is a good choice, i saw some discounts for it... but i also saw a few over heating threads.. i guess I should do some more research as that might be the only decent option

What else is wrong with the Pro (NOT RT) if you want a 10" Windows 8 tablet with touch?

If you're one to type on the go a lot, the lack of true keyboard dock is an ergonomic nightmare. A single position kickstand is worthless unless you have a stable platform in front of you, which isn't always the case. Even just lounging around at home, it's frustrating to use as a LAPtop even with the type cover.

It's a tablet first and foremost, but some people (like me and probably the OP) need something closer to a laptop. IMO the Helix is perfect but it's freakin expensive. I'm almost ready to bite on a Dell XPS 12 because of it as they've reached some good prices w/ coupons in the Outlet.

Between now and Christmas, there will be a deluge of Win8/8.1 tablets with Bay Trail or Haswell. The wave is coming

The Z2760 is slow but its not the real big issue. With the SSD they're actually pretty snappy for most things. The problem is that windows 8 is just fundamentally broken. You go to the store to download an app and it says it cant because your network connection is "too slow". Yet netflix and youtube and speedtest all work just fine. It's just broken and they dont care enough to even bother fixing it. The only fix is to basically restart the machine, which is idiotic. But you can bet that 3 years from now, that problem will still exist and there will be no solution. Also, downloading windows defender updates is totally broken. Installing flash player updates is totally broken. Basically anything to do with keeping the machine up to date is broken. Sandboxie will not run. There's no reason and no excuse for that. Little things like tapping on a link to open it vs double tapping to magnify it... that's all messed up and pretty much broken. Windows resize themselves and break fullscreen when rotating. It's a thousand stupid things and I have little faith that 8.1 will fix any of it.

I use a Windows 8 desktop at work, and haven't seen any of that, but it does have a wired connection.

I've also used the Surface Pro for testing touch support for an app (but only for testing, not for general use) and had no problems with updates over wifi. I do agree that it doesn't work well as a LAP-top, the keyboard + kickstand needs a table or desk.

Yeah, I used Windows 8 Pro for a month and didn't get all those problems. I was mostly in desktop and I didn't have a touchscreen.

I have no trouble believing win 8 works better on a full desktop running at full power. Windows 8 disables a bunch of services when it is installed on a tablet. (or Lenovo/whoever disables them.) That's probably why it runs much faster than you might expect for an atom. But in so doing I think the whole thing comes unraveled. And no one really tests what services depend on what, and how, to make sure the system still runs properly.

It fails at work probably due to lack of administrator rights. But, yah, you'd think Adobe would realize this.
