  1. Overview of the problem
USB chime and mouse freeze issue.. random times.

  2. Mouse freezes, Chime from USB?
Running any type application, whether it be gaming, web browsing or general use, my mouse will freeze, then I hear a chime.. almost sounds like a USB cable was unplugged, then plugged back in. Then it chimes and my mouse becomes usable again. Is my mouse going to bad or can it be something else?

  3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
Worked fine when I built the computer, now it seems to happen more and more since the last 2 days.

  4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
    Very random.

  5. I already tried these steps:
Re-install mouse drivers, unplugged all USB items, ran all sorts of scans.

  6. My software:
    • Operating System: Windows 7 Beta Build 7057
    • Antivirus is antivir
    • Firewall: windows and router physical

    • My hardware
    • Motherboard: Intel x58
    • CPU: Core i7 920 Stock
    • Video card: NV GTS 250
    • RAM: 6GB Super Talent DDR3 1333
    • Power supply: PC power and cooling 750w
    • Mouse: MS Inteli mouse optic

    • Other information that might be relevant
I really think its my mouse, but before I buy a new one I would like input. I appreciate your time.

The mouse cable is bad, usually right where it enters the mouse.
Sometimes you can open up the mouse and stuff the bad part of the cable inside to keep it from flexing.

I've had that happen on six different MX518s...not joking either.

It's the mouse cable.

Test different USB ports (which won't help if it's the mouse).
Then test with a different mouse.
