I don't think the Windows Side-by-Side directory (winsxs) is being truthful in its purported function. I used Secure Erase to clean the backup SSD and install Windows 7 Professional cleanly.
W7pro base before motherboard drivers: winsxs = 5.5GB
W7pro base, MB drivers, pre-SP1 Critical Updates: winsxs = 8.4GB
W7pro+SP1, MB drivers: winsxs = 11GB
W7pro+SP1, MB drivers, Post-SP1 Critical Updates: winsxs = 14.9GB
After the MB drivers were installed, I disabled Restore Point and ran Disk Cleanup several times. No s/w was installed, which the implied bloating due to s/w was no found true.
Jag87, I did install KB2852386with no difference.
