Getting an error saying wuaucpl.cpl is running when installing service pack 4 on w2k. I can't find the program in the task list. Tried closing all of the processes I could with no success. Nothing related to wuaucpl in the reg startup.

How can I get around this?

I believe it starts once the update starts, but after unpacking the files for the service pack I get the error, and the upgrade cancels. I've tried in safe mode as well, same problem.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. We tried booting into DOS with a PE CD and renaming the file so it wouldn't run on boot. Got an Access Denied messaged (in DOS!). Couldn't change the attributes, access denied.

Give MS a call. The normal $245 fee will be waived if you are having problems with a service pack. Ask for the Enterprise Platforms Support "Setup" team. I *guarantee* they will fix you. I've seen that error before but I don't have access to their internal KB any longer.

Guess I'll have to take your advice and give MS a call. Anyone have any other suggestions before I do so?

It's painless bro, get it over with.

Here's the number even:

800-936-4900

Give them your product ID, tell them it's a service pack related issue and you want to talk to EPS Plat. Setup.

You gotta come back here and post the Props once they hook you up though :p

I had exactly the same problem not so long ago when trying to install the service pack from a CD. I copied the file to the hard drive and it worked fine.
