I have been running W2K for about a week now but my Firewall says services.exe wants to connect to the Internet as a server! WTF? If this a virus? What is this?

services.exe is just a shim app that hosts your Services!

In Administration Tools (in your control panel on W2K Pro and on your main menu on Sever), you will find a Services MMC snapin. Fire it up and look at your running services. Lots of them will be Started Automatic and you can shut some of them down that you don't need. For example you might not need IIS or SNMP servers running that will touch your internet connection.

Thanks, I am finding all kinds of things like this that W9xdidn't have. WNT seems to be a lot more powerful and it seems like I would be able to tweak it if I knew what all these things ment. Nice that it runs stable too.

Thanks again

Goto 3dSpotlight for several tweak guides, including an excellent services one so you can disable ones you don't need and free up some memory.
