Never mind, wrong stuff....

Edit: this was for .NET, sorry... but there is some documentation on the right hand side that could provide some insight, but doesn't look promising.... link

You mean you've already setup AD under another domain name, and now you want to change it to the newer one? As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) there's no easy way out other than undoing DCPROMO then doing it again under a different name.

PeeluckyDuckee, had me excited there for a minute (have a home domain I really want to rename). But it appears these tools are for .NET servers only, still can't rename a W2K domain 🙁

just answered my own Question...NOPE

Followed instructions on the second KB article and it said specifically: The identification of this computer can not be changed because: -The computer is a domain controller.

surprise surprise.

so, now i'm supposed to run DCPromo to UNinstall AD, (which doesn't matter for me, b/c there's nothing in it) change the puter name and domain, and reinst. AD? dang...servers R a lot of werk! 😀

is this what U guys get?

Yep, and if you did have AD stuff that you wanted to save there are ways to back it up and import it but to simply rename the whole domain means tearing down the domain🙁

But it looks like they changed the policy in .NET

AD is allll gone now! 😀 Time to stick a new domain on it! 😀

is .NET windows new networking software or what??? Im lost...

In NT you could be either a pdc, bdc or 'member' server. You could promote/demote bdcs/pdcs til your heart was content, but never demote a pdc/bdc to a member server as far as I know.
