W2K Removing App Question

I installed an application in W2K. I tried to uninstall it through the Add/Remove in Control Panel and it couldn't (A file was missing). So I went with the tradional way of deleting through Windows Explorer. After that I rebooted. I went to the Add/Remove in Control Panel and it still has it listed. How can I remove it from there permanantely?

Some 'tweak' programs can do it I cant remeber the names though, TweakUI?? perhaps.
There's a option in Win ME to do it as well I think although that is of no use to you.
 
i just checked TweakUI in win2k and it doesn't look like that option is in there.

try searching for a prog called "add/remove program repairer" or something similar. i used to have a prog that i used in win98 that was called something like that.
 
go to the registry (type "regedit" under RUN) and FIND all items pertaining to the app you just uninstalled. be careful though, make sure it's directly for whatever you installed (for example if it was made by microsoft, running a search for MICROSOFT and deleting all those keys would be BAD 🙂 ).

to just remove the app from the list in ADD/REMOVE program files, look under this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
---Software\
------Microsoft\
---------Windows\
------------CurrentVersion\
---------------Uninstall\

it'll be somewhere under there 🙂

GL, backing up your registry beforehand is definitely a good idea too (just in case, accidents DO happen)
 
go to download.com and download xteq, it will let you do that and 100's of other tweaks. (like stick a logo in your system control panel <-- my fav)
 
all those programs don't do anything you can't do yourself by modding the registry- that's all they are. they're just a much easier way to control all of that, but anything they do is just modding the registry that you can do by hand 🙂
