W2K prof. or server for ftp server

Do you guys think W2K prof or W2K server is better for personal use.

I have a W2K prof (student version) and am wondering how to setup a ftp server for this. I know it's doable but not too certain how to configure this. I have T1 at home and no router/firewall. Yeah...I know, I should be getting one after my friend returns my Netgear router. Anyway, this ftp will only be used for personal use most of the time.

My system:
PII 400
19" Sony G400
512 RAM
20 gig Maxtor HD
6 gig Seagate HD
Diamond Viper/4meg RAM

The only real difference is that w2k pro allows 10 concurrent connections while w2k server allows unlimited connections. Each user of your ftp site will probably use 2-3 connections, so w2k pro can handle around 3-5 users simultaneously. For personal use, 10 concurrent connections should be enough.

Just use W2K Pro and use something an ftp server program like G6 which is much easier to work with. If you need it let me know.

Definitely use G6 as it is more customizable than the ftp server that comes with win2k. I don't think you will have the 10 connection limitation on win2k pro if you use G6.

Was playing with W2K ftp server but doesn't seem to be secure.
I thought assigning the directory to be "read" could only allow users to read/download only and "write" to upload, but either way, they can seem to be doing both.

Is there a free easy to use FTP server?
All the others I've seen out there seem to be shareware (G6, Serv-U)

I am not a networking guy so I could be wrong, but I believe that you need to apply your security settings on IIS with Windows 2000 accounts. If you allowed anonymous access, everyone would have (I think) read/write access to your FTP. Again, I could be wrong.

I'm new to the ftp server thing but I've been playing around with a freeware program called 3CDaemon.It seems to be very easy to use and secure based on the permissions you give.If you try it let me know what you think as this is the first one I've tried.
