We have 2 Win2K Pro systems connected together. I want to allow people to copy files from Computer A to B, but only certain people. Is there a way to password the drive?

No, not a global password, but you can set permissions to who can access the drive.

Create a fileshare and set permissions by clicking the Permissions button when you create the share. (Right click the folder and select Sharing.)

Are you in a domain or a workgroup? This becomes a management nightmare in a hurry if you're not in a domain.

That just brings up the list of users.

Everyone on Computer B uses the same log in. When I say user, I mean people, not users in the computer sense of the word.

Sorry, I know almost nothing about Windows networking. All of my experience is in Linux.

I want it to ask for a password on Computer A when someone tries to send a file to D: drive on Computer B.

Well it is not magic. If you don't have the people authenticate as different users when the connect to cmoputer B then it can't decide who can have access.

Since you say you want to have people copy from A to B, it is the accounts on B that have to be seperate for each user or at least those users that you want to have access and those you don't.

I guess you could create some other account on B that is typically not used and give it access to the share. Then when the people from computer A map the drive letter to the share on computer B then can use the cannect as a different user to specify that other user account/password. (which you only give tothe folks you want to be able to copy.
