W2K pro CORRUPTING systems files on SHUTDOWN, advice needed... 7 times .. this time right afer re-install

Hi,

I having this problem on my the box I'm building.
Is this the symptom of the heat on my CPU, or a BAD new maxtor 60gig 7200rpm HD I got?

Or ... is it W2K?

1.) How does Linux do in OC'ing? Or am I asking for trouble there ....

My gut feeling says w2k is a piece of SH^T. Since I had the same problem initially on the computer listed below also.

I also bought the same HD to use as a Backup device, BUT ... I found out that you cant run programs from the recovery console. (so ... I cant restore from the other drive.)

2.) Anyone know how to boot from floppy and still use the NTFS partitions so I can restore?

I still have the heat issue with this processor. T-bird 1200 runs 55c at idle, and climbs to 68c on full load depending on room temp. I'm using the CORE for heat sink ... (awsome) but still have the heat ...

I sent the CPU back to Overclockers store and they say this CPU boots and runs Prime95 @ 10*143 @ 1.85v with 46c temp reading.

I'm ready to lay this setup in the driveway and run over it with my 11.5 tires.....

I have .....
MSI K7 Master
2 - 128mb Crucial DDR 2100
2 - Maxtor 60gig 7200rpm - (model 5T060H6)

I remember people having troubles with IBM DTLA disks at shutdown. I think the problem was due to Windows shutting down too quickly (before the disk cache got cleared). Do a search in general hardware forum.
