Hello,

I just bought a new 19" monitor (Samsung -pretty cool ;) ...but my win2k won't allow me to set up new drivers for it ... in the "Advanced Properties" in the "Display Properties" it just have a "Default Monitor" and the button to change it is not active ;( .... and somehow the software that came with monitor can't install the driver either ;( ... it gives me some error ;( ... and in "Devices" I couldn't find monitor device ...

Thanks,
bye.

I think that you are running a NVidia card with some sort of Detonator driver. Try to install either a never or an older version of your NVidia drivers. I had the same problem twice. After trying out different drivers it worked. But sometimes I have to reinstall Win2k to get the monitor-icon back on :(.

Try that and give us a list of your hardware :)

I'm having the exact same reeking problem, and it's ticking me off. I think it is driver related, since my monitor was able to put itself into standby mode before...

Here's my lineup:

Asus P2B-LS motherboard
Win2K/98SE dualboot
IBM P72 monitor
ATI AIW Radeon vidcard

I had this problem a week ago, with my ATI AIW pro, and I still have the problem even with my brand new vidcard. Suck! I think it's also related to my advanced display driver problems, where none of ati's driver properties tabs display.

Yeah, I was reading this somewhere that Win2K does this. I guess because it is set up for networking and they feel properties for your Monitor are not important. I have a $1000 iiyama 22" and it just says default monitor. I had to install Powerstrip to get advanced features and tweaks!!

As I said I had the same problem myself. I could do two things:

1: Try to install an either older or never driver or

2: Reinstall Windows 2k (which ofcourse sucks to do...)

It has absolutely nothing to do with Win2k it's driver related. My friend had the same problem, and he did the exact same thing as I do. I found that NVidias 5.22 seems to work for me with monitor but some of the beta-drivers doesn't work. The new Detonator 3 drivers is allright to me too.
