w2k keeps checking for consistency everytime on boot-up

my system has been running buggy and i tried to perform a chkdsk and it prompted me that it is scheduled for reboot. eversince then, it's been running the check on boot-up and it doesn't seem like it finishes. it just prompts that it is "verifying files and folders" and then it goes into windows. i swear it used to show the details of the drive and whether if it was erroneous or not.

how do i get rid of this so that it doesn't do the check everytime? is there a better tool to use for error checking like the good old "scandisk?"
