I have installed W2k without executing the F6 option "install other scsi device". My Sony CRX145E IDE CDRW won't burn in this install. I reinstalled W2k as another os on a seperate partition for a backup and executed the F6 option, even though i have no other scsi device. Continued with the install without installing a scsi driver and this W2K allows the Sony to work properly including burning. Both os's read.
Oddly, W2k calls the first driver Sony Crx145 scsi.
The second is simply Sony Crx145.

What does W2K do with the F6 option that I cannot do after the install or can I manually perform this F6 function after the install? tombilliodeaux@hotmail.com

All of the things that can be installed using the F6 command at setup can be done later. The only difference is that if any of the devices that are needed for installation need drivers, they must be installed at setup time using F6. (ie you are installing onto a SCSI HD).

Paulip88,
What can I install to duplicate whatever happened at the F6 event during install? You say that they MUST be installed at setup time? I have a Maxtor IDE hdd. Is this considered a SCSI?
I don't understand how this makes the Sony perform write function, but it does.
If this is so, I then must reinstall to make this device work properly, as i have done with the other install.

If you were able to get the dirve to work on another install of Win2K by installing at driver at the F6 prompt, then that means that the Sony drive needs additional drivers.

You can probably find drivers on the manufacturer's website or you can try to do Add New Hardware and see if it can find drivers on its own.

The only real difference I can find is the F6 version installed a different driver version. Three drivers were installed:
cdrom.sys 5.002165.1
redbook.sys 5.002174.1
storprop.dll 5.002195.1611 on the version that does not work
and 5.002161.1 on the version that does work.

I replaced the 2195 with the 2161 version of Storprop.dll.
Helped with Retrospect software and allowed it to burn. Retrospect only makes backups though. Nero and others give same original error. The registry has some differences concerning these drivers but I don't know what to remove or what to add.

I tried to "add hardware" to get W2K to install drivers, but it would not do so from the W2k cd. I propably need to remove the device drivers (uninstall) and reinstall them. Doubt if that will do anything though as this is what was done upon original installation.
