W2k ICS vs HW router?

I've heard that W2k ICS is much better than that of 98, and I hear that you can do it with only 1 NIC. Is this true

and how does w2k ICS match up w/ a hardware router, not talking about security or anything like that, just speed

I've never heard of being able to run Windows 2000 ICS with one NIC (unless your sharing dialup through modem

As far as performance goes, people generally believe that Windows 2000 ICS is better than 98/ME since networking mechanisms were written better for NT.

ICS in general is the same between the two comps. They do the same thing, network performance in general is better with win2k though. Also, you still need two nics. One of them will connect you to your local network, the other one connects to your cable/dsl. You may only need the NIC for you local network if you are using a modem to connect to the internet, or (not sure if this works) you have one of thsoe internal dsl modems.

RichieZZZZ might be right. W2k allows for multiple IP's bound to a single NIC. I'm not sure if you can run ICS that way.

If you're up to it, try NAT in RRAS. It takes a bit of fiddling to get going, but it has a lot more features and it works great...nice and fast.
