Heyas!

I have a particular problem with my machine (Athlon, ASUS K7M MB) and win2k. The problem is that windowz freeze in Office 2k applications (Word, Excel etc...) and lately even Outlook Express freezed my machine a few times.
The description of 'Freezing' would be - the screen would get the 'double-picture' blur (and would become green-ish) and the machine would freeze (I hafta reboot with the switch)

All other applications work really fine, and even games (like MDK2, No One Lives Forever) work w/o any problems.

I tried reinstalling Office, updating with SP-1a etc, but nothing helps.
And I dont have a clue what could be the reason for freezing :(

Software:

Win2k Professional (Installed as upgrade to Win98SE)
Office 2k Premium (With SP-1a installed)

Hardware:
Athlon 500/650
Asus K7M
128 MB of PC133 RAM (Not a brand name)
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP

Any solution/hint would be great...Thanks!

An updgrade??? ERRRRR... well at this point it could be anything. There are usually a lot of problems with upgrades from 98 to 2000. Microsofts upgrade strategy would even take you from windows 98 to NT 4.0 and then to 2000 if you listened to them. However, for the sake of troubleshooting check your C:\winnt\setuperr.log (open with notepad or some other text editor) to see if you had any problems. This is the log for should be empty. Check your Event Viewer to see if your system has logged any errors. For event viewer right click on my computer and click manage. Expand the event viewer tree and check out the Application and also the System selections.

From what you describe it sounds like a hardware problem. Check for newer drivers for your vid card or possibly reinstall your old ones again. Sounds like something funky happened there.

Thanks igiveup :)

First of all, I tried reinstalling the vid card drivers before, but didn't help. :( (And as there's no more 3dfx, so no more driver updates :( ).

Anyway, I went to check setuperr.log, and its filled with sh*t (If needed I'll supply a list of errors, but most were updated/fixed by win2k).

After that I went to check events (Apps and Sys), and they're also full of errors.

No wonder its not stable...

Now, I can post here a list (short) of errors, but I am wondering if I should mebbe do the clean install of win2k.

(I am just hoping its not a hardware error).

Okies, das it, awaiting reply :)

Should you do a clean install of Win2K? YES!! While the upgrade plan for win98 to Win2K is supposed to be easy, you must remember that Win2K is going off the confusing and often error filled registry of win98. I would highly suggest a clean install if this is a PC that you are going to be using quite a bit. It is the only way to eliminate all possible hold-over problems.
As Always,
