Hi,

I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible, so succinct answers will be fine.

Planning to go to W 10 32 bit. Using W7 Pro 32 for yrs with no problems on a MSI gaming laptop.
Getting a new gaming laptop either an ASUS or a MSI.

Along with W 10 32bit I'm looking for an Office Suite that allows 1 or 2 things.

1] Set up my own ribbon with ONLY the functions I NEED & USE.

2] Has BUTTON MENU like Office 2003, 2007 where I can set up with MY OWN MENU FUNCTIONS/BUTTONS.

Regards,

So on this new laptop, you want to gimp the amount of ram to less than 4GB usable with a 32-Bit OS??

Can i ask why you wouldn't just leave it with the 64-Bit? You probably won't find drivers for these new laptops for Windows 10 32-Bit either as most have discontinued support for it.

The OP might have the need to use 16-bit programs. That is the only reason why I can think of anyone to stick with a 32-bit Operating System and CPU.

Hi, Davy Brat, I'd be glad to tell you, see below.

I would go Win/64 bit, but I don't have time, money to spend learning, paying for new software before my birth certificate expires.

I'm open to any suggestions & have done a lot of research as I live in Toms River, NJ, which is in Room 101 in the basement of the Black Hole of Calcutta.

Maybe you can tell me if I can run Fireworks 2, Alpha 4, My Contact MGR, Office 2003. My current PC's have 256 GB SS drives & manage upwards of 8 TB data.

Step 1. Get a 64-bit Ubuntu or Windows.
Step 2. Install VirtualBox or VMware.
Step 3. Create a a 32-bit Windows virtual machine.
Step 4. Install Windows 10 32-bit on that VM.

There You go. :)

1. The only reason to stick with 32bit OS is that you only have 4GB RAM and you will never upgrade, since a 32bit to 64bit OS upgrade requires reinstallation.

2. LibreOffice probably can satisfy what you need.

I'm going to have to do some research on these suggestions. I'm not a tech & just moved 5 states away. Now I'm in NJ as stated before & the tech people are sparse & are expensive $100+ hr. I'm not going to let some guy I don't know get into my PC.

Sorry to bother you guys. My expertise is in business above the code & hdwe creating dots to get to a solution. I'll use these skills to chk out your 4 suggestions.

Thanks,

klxdrt

I don't think that it has been explicitly mentioned, but perhaps it should.

64-bit versions of Windows, since Vista, run Win32 (32-bit Windows API) applications just fine.

The only real restriction, is, you can't run 16-bit applications on Win64, and some 32-bit Win32 applications, used 16-bit installers, which can be a pain. (Have to install to a true 32-bit Windows OS, then copy over to the 64-bit system.)

As others have already pointed out, unless you have the highly specific need to run 16bit software, go with x64 Windows. Even then it'd likely run better in a VM, or under WINE in Linux. x64 will run 32bit/x86 software just fine.

x64 isn't just about memory, but also security. Things like ASRL doesn't work in 32bit mode.

Anything new you buy will without a doubt come with a preloaded x64 version of Windows 10. You may even be unable to get 32bit drivers for a new laptop anyway.

Libreoffice

'nuff said.
