Has anyone paid attention that AMD guys still haven't released WDDM 2.7 compatible drivers for their hardware. I can see, Intel and nVIDIA have already done so.

Lazy, you reckon?

Windows 10 May 2020 Update[49] (Version 2004) includes WDDM 2.7.

  • Shader Model 6.5[50]
  • Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling: an additional option in the system settings, which increases the minimum and average fps to reduce latency, requires a minimum version of shader model 6.3 in hardware from the video card
  • DirectX 12 Sampler Feedback[51]
Sampler Feedback is a Direct3D 12 feature for capturing and recording texture sampling information and locations. Without sampler feedback, these details would be opaque to the developer. This feature gives applications the ability to not just know what mip was sampled, but to know where on those mips. Applications might be interested in sampling information, for example, to:

accurately know what to load next in a texture streaming system, or accurately know what needs to be shaded in a texture-space-shading rendering system. Feedback of sample operations is written to a "feedback map" which acts as a kind of opaque resource which must be transcoded to get application-inspectable information out. As for the writing of feedback itself, there are HLSL constructs in shader model 6_5 for that. The semantics are very similar to the semantics for Texture2D's Sample and its variants.

While sampler feedback makes good use of new shading language constructs, it also involves UMD changes. For device-capability-checking, there's a cap called SamplerFeedbackTier reported through D3D12DDI_D3D12_OPTIONS_DATA_0073. Resource creation has been revised to take a new field, the sampler feedback mip region, of type D3D12DDI_MIP_REGION_0075. Going along with this, there's also a new descriptor-creating method, PFND3D12DDI_CREATE_SAMPLER_FEEDBACK_UNORDERED_ACCESS_VIEW_0075.

No May driver yet either (with or without WDDM 2.7), we might not get a 20.5 driver this year at this rate.

When is Windows 2004 coming out? (That's 2020-04, for the curious. Win10 itself wasn't around in "2004".)

Yeah, just went to Windows Update on this box, and... it's HERE~!

I guess, though, having an AMD GPU as the primary GPU for desktop display in this box, that I SHOULD NOT install 20-04 until AMD releases their WDDM 2.7 Radeon drivers? I assume, that like Sandy Bridge iGPUs on Win10, I'll have a "bad time", if I use a video driver with an out-dated WDDM on the newest version of Win10.

Looks like I've got something to do during lockdown, update all of my PCs. LOL. Thanks for the info and news! This is exciting. Hopefully, nothing show-stopping as far as bugs go.

Teaches me to rely on the AMD check for updates system, it doesn't show up anything other than 20.4.2.
By default, Adrenaline 2020 drivers only show "Recommended" updates (*generally, WHQL releases). You need to click on the "Gear" in the upper-right, and then change the setting to "Recommended + Optional", to get the "beta" releases.

It is actually Version 2004, which is the update from Version 1909, MS dropped the naming for years some time back ;)

For those testing Windows 10 in the Fast ring, AMD has had driver 27.20.1002.34 available since 4/30, driver 27.20.1017.1011 became available to the general public with Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.5.1

Somewhat, yeah :)

AMD today released the Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.5.1 suite of drivers after over a month without an update to its graphics software. This one is almost solely focused on providing support for the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, which Microsoft launched several hours ago.

According to user reports on the AMD subreddit, although the driver shows it supports WDDM 2.7 after updating, hardware-based scheduling looks to be missing. AMD doesn't go into detail regarding the May 2020 Update support in its release notes either. Much like Nvidia graphics card owners, it looks like AMD fans will have to wait for a while before receiving full support for the new update's feature set.

At any rate, excited about the features the new driver model has brought. One more reason to ditch Windows 7, if hardware permits.

What new features specifically are we talking about? For current AMD GPUs, I mean, I know there's a couple that only NV supports so far IIRC.

I am only excited about GPU HW Scheduling, really. AMD yet to support it.
