I found one on Craigslist.

Yakima LoadWarrior.

They are normally $300ish.

I'm getting one, plus locks, plus a net for $175 😎

I like Yakima gear. I have a rack on my Dakota's cap that I use for carrying my Hobie kayak and an occasional ladder. Their stuff seems to be stong.

You don't own a truck, you own an SUV. Trucks have beds.

It's a truck.

It's built on a truck frame. It drives just like a truck.

I would have gotten a truck with a bed if I didn't require an enclosed cargo area. And camper shells suck.

I hate to say it bud, but a Suburban is still an SUV.

Fun fact:
In California, trucks are required to have commercial plates. SUVs aren't.

...you'll see the difference come time to pay registration.

Fun Fact: It's not a huge awkward-driving Suburban.

Fun Fact: I used to live in California, and trucks were NOT required to have commercial plates. My dad had several. None had commercial plates.

Were the plates #A##### or #AAA###?

And my point was no matter how "truck based" it is, it's still an SUV.

Even this guy agrees that it's BS.

Adding a commercial tax to a vehicle isn't the same as actually requiring commercial plates.

Yes, it's an SUV. But it's still a truck too 😛

Edit - I saw a part in the article about camper shells. My dad kept one on the trucks all the time so maybe that's why.

Any reason for needing more cargo space than you have inside already?
You should post pics.

The spare tire will be moved from under the vehicle to the cargo rack. Especially needed for when I eventually upgrade to 33" tires as those will not fit underneath and less stuff to hit on rocks underneath without a tire there. Also gas cans will go up top instead of inside - going up and down in elevation causes expansion/contraction and inevitably gas fumes inside which is not cool.

Eventually, I will have a rear bumper with a swing-away tire carrier, but as it is about $900, not yet.

Oh and I should have the light bar and cargo basket on by the weekend. I'll have to get some pics.

Light bar might not be hooked up yet, but will be mounted for testing purposes.

Camper shells don't suck. Keeps the load dry, allows you to carry stuff that would normally be blown out. Tonneau covers are nice too, and they look better, but not nearly has practical.

Like I said above, I carry my 2 person kayak on a rack mounted to the camper shell. Try securing a 12 foot kayak in a normal pickup bed.

Very true, my dad has one of these on his truck, it's rated to hold something like 1000LBs on the rack on the top:

The back tends to be full of tools and stuff most all the time, same with my uncle's. And the rack supports long boards well. (his is one of the ones that goes forward over the cab)
