For technophobes, the word also is familiar from the 1990 movie "Pretty Woman," in which Julia Roberts startles her date's upper-crust friends with a hearty "Woot, woot, woot!" at a polo match.
OMG....I can't believe they think that this word came from Pretty Woman.

yeah, we all know the word came from arsenio hall and the arsenio show ;)

wasn't it merriam-webster that also decided "bootylicious" deserved to be in the dictionary?

I have trademarked the word "w00t" and hereby disallow all use outside of official g33k communities, of which Miriam-Webster.com is not part.

Additionally, all spoken use of the aforementioned term is banned under international law. Similarly, words such as 733t, ROFL, LOL, SATA and OMGWTFBBQ are banned from spoken use.
