ok, heres the scenario, i called up the HR dude and he said " we are finalizing the offer"

does that mean i have the job???

Yes and no

They are going to call you up and offer you a position with XXXX amount of pay. If it is all good to you, then you accept and yes, you have a job.

it sounded good...i mean his voice...

i know the job market is tough right now so i would not be surprised if they offer me less than my old job.

w00t w00t i hope you guys are on the money!!!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

You actually hung up before I could finish. What I meant to say was "we are finalizing the offer for someone else...you suck" Sorry about that.

but you were going to offer him the position of a sanitation engineer at the local Taco Hell...

Can't believe he hung up before he got this offer

Probably. They are likely trying to decide on a salary for you and seeing if they have money to hire you. If they have no money then there is not much they can do about it other than fire someone.

its for a consulting firm. i hope i get the job. i am strapped for cash right now. hella broke. 🙁🙁🙁

You may have a confirmed position or they may be offering you a tennative based on accecptance of a client.

If the later, they would like to have you, but need to confirm funding.

Keep everyone posted

Well, consulting firms pay hella bucks, so that helps.

i got the job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

how sweet it is!! the only problem....i start in september.....well, time to start crackin the books!!

which way do you think is the best way to maximize my next 5-6 months?

what tech stuff should i study up on? any recommendations?

Why the long wait? Unless you're in school right now, I'd be wary of a company that put me off that long. Those positions have a habit of disappearing before you even start.

Why do you need tech stuff? What kind of consulting is it? Are you doing high tech, IT, e-business, or stategic consulting or something else?

mostly security consulting. i am most likely gunna study for my cissp. but i would like to know if there are any better suggestions out there.

tkim, the CISSP requires 3 years of specific security experience. If you are a consultant, and you are put in front of a client and do not know what you are talking about, then you wont last very long.

Is it with one of the big 5 accounting firms?

Do you have any cracking experience? I saw a clip where the world bank hired a group (I think from Andersen (accenture)) to test out their system. These guys were fresh early twenties crackers with real experience. They ended up getting into the intranet through a modem line. What they did was impersonated some guy during a call to get the login name. They then guessed the password and got in. You could see them remotely controlling the computer that was inside the world bank. Looked like they were using VNC or some other visual terminal stuff like X maybe. They had to keep the name of the client secret, so they did not mention the world bank in the video. Kind of sad for the bank that it took less than a day for these guys to break in.

Csoup that is what i do for one of the other big 5, err i guess big 4 now...

however my interview process took 3 months and 7 interviews total, plus you have to be able to obtain a SECRET level security clearance (10 year history background check)

it was no joke to get in.

previous to me getting this job, i had 5 years expereience as a consultant in another much smaller firm doing similar items.

im 23
