Personally I find the E46 (especially in coupe form) looking really dated by now. I really don't understand why people like to romanticized out-going models. The previous E38 7-series looks like ass compared to the E65. The E39 5-series while still looking nice, is dated and boring compared to the E60. Bangle did some questionable stuff like the huge trunk gap and the Bangle-butt, but overall his designs have been quite exciting (if somewhat flamboyant).
I agree with this 100%.

This looks 50x better than the E65
It's funny you say that because the old 7-series was the only BMW that I felt was begging for a redesign. I find the squared off shoulders boring and dated. Looked absolutely gorgeous when it was released.

I find this extremely attractive. Simple, yet powerful looking.

Funny, the Nissan/Infiniti that gets the most crap is the M45 so I guess that your styling preferences ARE out of whack😉 Then again...914... 😉
There's no "maybe" about it, they're out of whack. 😀

Examples: I think this is a beautiful car.
This one too.

PUKE!!

My idea of a beautiful car
Well, one simply cannot go wrong with the 356. 🙂 Though most people actually think they look a little ugly. I've heard them compared to "a dung beetle with rickets". Naturally I love the 356 though. 😀

i hate the eyebrows he introduced to bimmers. bah.

someone fire the new maxima's designers too. i have a 4th gen and its nice... the 5g was nice too with the red clear rear lights... but the 6g is just fugly... its got a HUGE rear bumper. and whose idea was the bucktooth?! GAH.

Both the Porsche and the Lincolns look beautiful.

But ZV, your definately out of whack! You think the FX45 is ugly!!

You know what I always thought wasn't pretty...the Muira. Its definately good looking, but not beautiful. Those eye-lashes over the headlights don't look right on a super car.

Update....This May be OFFICIAL!!

BMW's controversial head of design, Chris Bangle, is apparently on his way out. Bangle is responsible for the radical look of current BMWs like the 7, 6 and 5 Series models.

Bangle, an American, was appointed as BMW's head of design about a decade ago and in this time he managed to give most BMW cars a complete new look, which wasn't always favourably accepted by the motoring public.

Auto Express now reports that Bangle will leave his hot seat soon after the launch of BMW's new 1 Series Golf rival, for which Bangle is also responsible.

Bangle introduced a complete new design trend for the Münich car manufacturer with the latest 7 Series. The same radical look was also given to the Z4, the all-new 6 Series and the 5 Series.

He also had a hand in the design of the X3 and the face-lifted X5.

The launch of the 1 Series will complete his design overhaul of BMW products. But the 1 Series won't be the last Bangle designed product.

The next 3 Series, which is due for launch next year, is currently under development and it is almost sure that Bangle's influence will also be recognisable when this important BMW model makes its appearance.

actually the only design mistake that bangle made is the current 7 series (even so that car is selling VERY well, much better than the previous model)

the new 5 series is REALLY nice IRL, dont base ur judgment in pics.. u have to see it in person

You know, unless you're actually an owner or a prospective buyer of a certain brand, I don't see why you should get your panties all up in a bunch because you don't like how the current designer(s) are modeling the cars. If it doesn't affect you in ANY way, then just get over it and yourself. Your opinion is just that. And apparently someone must have thought this guy was doing a somewhat decent job if he kept his job this long. I'm sure BMW didn't have all that much of a problem selling their cars because of their looks.

Other people have to look at the cars on the road.

I think BMWs did need restyling... just not in they were "Bangled."

Look at the Mercs... most of their styling revisions have been very nicely done. However, I'm getting scared of MB's tendency for big ugly "F1 inspired" noses for their AMG cars. It's like Bangle's fascination with eyebrows.

ya again IMO bmws are SUPPOSED to look this way (sporty as opposed to elegant)

the current e46 series is very nice looking (and this is actually bangle's design), the new 5 series (e60 me thinks??) IMO is stunning in real life..

the only flaw is the new 7 series, which IMOlooks like crap
