A little while ago my usual computer got trashed after a virus payload. Since then I've been using my makeshift PC.

I'm finally motivated in fixing it up next week and while I'm at it, I'd like to replace the HDD's with something QUIETER since it's not very convenient to do this when I have tons of data on it.

anyone have recommendation on HDD?

Oh yeah.. No IBM's please. I've heard of enough IBM HDD death horror story.

I'm planning on getting opinions today, buying the drives tomorrow and fix it over the week next week.

 
Well, gee, duh, why don't you just format the virus infected system? Of course, that approach wouldn't require mommy and daddy to shell out money.

Oh sure I could just format it, but I wanted to get quieter HDD's before the virus attack anyways. Since I already had to format everything on the hard drive, I just like to use this opportunity to install new drives without having to fuss with the data.

Virus completely trashed everything on my HDD. Since these HDD's are already low level formatted now, if I were to get new HDD's, I can do so without having to copy files and such.

No they're ok.. I was talking noise level wise.
 
Seagate Barracuda IV's are supposed to be the quietest, if you are in the bay area, you can go to Fry's and pick up a 80GB drive for $100 after rebate.
