w00t! I now have 1 GB of network storage space!

With campus wide 802.11b coverage and an admin account in the Novell system, I could take my pick of any network printer on the entire campus. Freaked some people in class out when I was in class and told em to go up to the lab to a certain printer and they would see our team report just chillin there. lol

Nice. Students here can actually pretty much already do the same. They can print to any printer in the labs.

we already have had this for some time, and see what happens:

"Dear All,

Those of you with backups of entire machines, shareware, ISO's, warez, screeners, cams, anything the MPAA, RIAA or SPA would object to, or basically ANYTHING that's not vital to your coursework/research on Zappa and Home2 - please remove those files immediately or you will find your account locked. These directories are expensive to back up and some of that stuff really shouldn't be on there.

Thank you,
scott-"

"For clarification - SSG is not in the practice of or even remotely interested in viewing the contents of people's home directories, but will audit a directory if it inexplicably becomes the largest directory on the server.

Those who would use common infrastructure to store illegal material should note that our backups provide a permanent record of this activity. We are required to provide this record to law enforcement officials if they should ask for it. Please keep this activity off our network.

Thanks again,
scott-"

we have ulimited network space

Unless you are in the residence halls and then they don't let you use the wireless unless you're next door to the antenna. Buy an antenna to boost your signal and they yell at you (after taking away your land line because you downloaded too much).

Then you download in labs more than ever before and nobody cares!

Wouldn't know anything about the dorms since I have been out of them for years.

Did you lose your connection?

Nice. I get 500mb as a student, and basically unlimited as an employee.
The main benefit to my job is unlimited printing, including color laser printing with semi-gloss paper. 🙂

That is something all students actually already get at Purdue. Of course, I rarely ever print anything.

What a screw job, I have to pay for all my printing (10 cents/page for B&W 50 cents/page colour). More importantly, I can't charge directly to my student account and I have to go see this lazy douchebag every time I want to add money to my printing account. I hate that guy,I look forward to kicking him in the 'nads one day.

At least I can take solace in the fact that I probably pay about 1/10th of your tuition 😀

Unless you pay $250 per semester for tuition, I highly doubt it.

Purdue's

Instate Tution: $5,860
Out-of-State: $5,860 + $11,780

My school (U of Michigan) is running a pilot program to increase user network storage space above the current 50 MB quota. As an IT student employee I found out about the program first, and emailed the appropriate people. They asked me how much I wanted and I originally told them 200 - 300 MB, but I got an email this morning telling me my quota had been increased to 1 GB!

Oh, the possibilities!

Thats pretty cool. Now you can store files and access them from anywhere 🙂

No scholorships. Tuition has increased over the years and that is the figure you see. However, the increase has not effected those previously enrolled as drastically as it has effected new students.

cool. they need to adopt that rule in Virginia Tech... $800 tution increase every frickin semester (for the last 3 years) and yes, previously enrolled students get raped by the increase as well.

Bastage! Here at Pitt we don't get any perks like that for being in IT. Even though we're employees, our "primary classification" is still student so we're stuck with the regular print quota. (Not that I've ever managed to go over the 900 sheet allowance per semester.)

I pay ~ $1500 CDN per semester for a full 17 credit course load. You obviously pay much less than the average student does in any of the major universities, but I still pay only about half of what you do 😛.
