w00t! I now have 1 GB of network storage space!

My school (U of Michigan) is running a pilot program to increase user network storage space above the current 50 MB quota. As an IT student employee I found out about the program first, and emailed the appropriate people. They asked me how much I wanted and I originally told them 200 - 300 MB, but I got an email this morning telling me my quota had been increased to 1 GB!

Oh, the possibilities!

Nice. I get 500mb as a student, and basically unlimited as an employee.
The main benefit to my job is unlimited printing, including color laser printing with semi-gloss paper. 🙂

That is something all students actually already get at Purdue. Of course, I rarely ever print anything.

Students here only get 400 pages a term and color laser printing is always $0.79/page, charged to a student account. At the computing site I work at, we go through 10,000 - 20,000 sheets a day (about 525 stations, located right in the middle of campus).

wow
we have a wooping 16 megs of web space i just checked, and email cuts into that space also, the public server for data we can use, each student gets 50 or 100 megs, but you cant access them from the web, they are networked drives and folders

and i dont think my school owns a color laser printer

also i work for IT (instructional Tech) and i dont get any benefits

I remember those days. Our printers were usually back logged by anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours. However, we do not have one large lab like you mentioned. Instead we have many smaller labs with anywhere from 10-100+ computers.

Usually .pdf documents for class...my teachers love to assign 30-40 page .pdf files. It sucks.

At my school (Wright State University), there's an Engineering computer lab, and then regular people labs. The Engineering labs are restricted to students enrolled in Engineering (and Computer Science) courses, and have free printing. The regular labs are $0.07/page or $0.10/page of duplex. If you need something printed inside of an hour, you'd better pony up the $0.07/page. 🙂

we have 4 comp labs at school, and you can print as much as you want off of them, all have laser printers the main lab has 2 huge ones, then their are comps in just about every class room and each room has its own laser printer, i know all the physics math and comp sci classes have them as well as a bunch of the bio chem and physch labs,

What a screw job, I have to pay for all my printing (10 cents/page for B&W 50 cents/page colour). More importantly, I can't charge directly to my student account and I have to go see this lazy douchebag every time I want to add money to my printing account. I hate that guy,I look forward to kicking him in the 'nads one day.

At least I can take solace in the fact that I probably pay about 1/10th of your tuition 😀

Here's a map of the computing sites on campus. I'd say UM's got it pretty well covered. 🙂

I work at the Angell Hall Courtyard one. Oh, and all the 135 Mac machines are Dual 2 GHz G5s running Panther. With dual LCDs (17" and 15"). I get to use one every day at work. I like it.

We have 15 computer labs on campus and we just pay like a $30 lab fee that covers all our printing. I can pretty much get unlimited space as I'm friends with a unix admin and I work for the University Computer Support Services.

Unless you pay $250 per semester for tuition, I highly doubt it.
