w00t! FTC establishes national "do-not-call" list!!

Actually, the problem a lot of people have, is this national list isn't as restrictive as some other state's lists. I know people in Indiana have a better list then this one. I'm not sure if this nullifys all state lists or not.

link for all to register!

In about four months, consumers will begin registering for free online or by calling a toll-free number. To avoid an unmanageable flood of registrations, initial sign-up by phone for the national "do not call" registry will be phased in, region-by-region, over a two-month period.

Can't quite register yet.

Some businesses are exempt from the TSR and can still call you even if you place your number on the registry. (These include long-distance phone companies and airlines, and insurance companies that operate under state regulations.)

nuts.

<shrug> it's a start. You can tell each of the above to place you on the do-not-call lists they're required to maintain. Do this every time a telemarketer calls you and it will cut down the number of calls very quickly.

I wonder.

The "can call you if you request info" thing seems like a loophole to me. What's stopping telemarketers from claiming you called them first? Do they have to prove it with some sort of telephone log?
