Awesome, my Gainward 7800GS+ has arrived!!!! When I was ordering it, I heard that my card might not fit into my board because of a peice of plastic that was protruding out from the HSF but it turns out it fits perfectly! I guess they removed the wierd triangle plastic thing which I have no idea why it was there in the first place..

Where I bought the Card.

At the moment I'm trying to keep my excitement underwraps. Because I'm changing out video card, it means I won't have the oppportunity to bench my older 9800pro video card so at the moment I've been doing realtively indpeth benchmarks of the video card. I've been benching the card with 3Dmark 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2006 with performance textures, quality textures and high quality textures, Stock Speeds and Overclocked speeds, making for a total of 30 screen caps! (Of the score) I also have plans but not quite sure If I want to, but I'd be benching the card with just core overclock, or just memory overclock etc.

My only reason for not benching video games is because I don't know how to bench games such as BF2 or obivion, Q4. But if I there is enough interest I'll do it. Once I have the benchmarks for my 9800pro, I'll be able to compare the benchmarks with my new 7800GS+.

Update: I'm going to keep this thread alive for a while. This whole thing may take upwards of at least a month to complete (since I'm in school already..) So far I've done all of the benchmarks I wanted to with the futuremark programs on the 9800pro, I don't exactly want to switch out yet because I'm waiting for my 2GB memory modules to arrive back from the RMA.

I'm also wondering how to bench oblivion & BF2 on these cards, have plans to bench the following games: Farcry, Oblivion, Counter Strike, BattleField 2, and any other games if you guys are interested. I just hope you guys will be patient enough for the results, I'll do this regardless of whether or not people will care, difference is how organized the data will be and whether or not I'll even post the results at all.

Update: I wanted to point out that my max screen resolution is only 1280X1024, though if I'm lucky I may be able to bench at higher resolutions but I don't see that happening anytime soon..

only $250.

Now tell me, do you think the 5-10% performance increase from having 512MB of ram is worth $150?

EDIT: Oh, 24 pipe one. my bad.

Perhaps, but not everybody can be arsed changing out motherboards. A video card upgrade is much less hassle, especially if he's already running an A64. If he has the cash, why not?

Besides, that card he has is a superb card in AGP, it's up there with the high end PCI-E cards.

Congrats. Nice purchase. :)

P4 2.8c running at 3.5ghz at the moment, 2GB Ram, originally had a 9800pro, I'm excited to bench the system. One problem though, my 2GB memory module needs to be RMA'd which is why I'm only running 3.5 and not something higher like 3.8.

Sorry to hijack this thread.

I had planned to do a mini-review on this card a month ago- but never got around to posting benchmark results.

Well since I've run into this thread- I can post my results for comparison with Goku's. The card was overclocked to 550mhz core speed and 700mhz memory speed- stock was 450mhz core and 625mhz memory.

System Specs:

Intel P4 3.2ghz Extreme Edition overclocked to 3.5ghz
Cooled by Zalman CNPS9500 LED
Asus P4C800 E-Deluxe
Gainward 7800GS+ Bliss 512MB DDR3 overclocked to 550mhz core clock and 700 memory clock
OCZ 2GB EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Platinum
1x 150GB WD Raptor
1x 250GB WD Caviar 2500KS

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/Kerby1280/07748cc3.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/Kerby1280/3fd55fee.jpg As you can see it has a 6-pin PCI-E power plug. You can use a PCI-E power plug if your PSU has one or use the included adapter which plugs into two regular 4-pin molex power plugs-http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/Kerby1280/2f89023f.jpg

Benchmark Results:

3Dmark03- http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/Kerby1280/Benchmarks/03.jpg

3Dmark05-http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/Kerby1280/Benchmarks/05.jpg

3Dmark06-http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/Kerby1280/Benchmarks/06.jpg

Lost Coast Stress Test: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/...enchmarks/hl22006-08-0702-22-00-21.jpg Test was run at 1280x1024 resolution and max settings(AA, Anti-Scopic, Textures, etc..)

Fear Performance Test: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/Kerby1280/Benchmarks/fear.jpg Fear had to be run at 1024x768- I don't remeber why but I think because it didn't have 1280x1024 as an option.

As for benchmarking games that don't have a built in benchmark demo- I did'nt have a method so I just took screenshots with FRAPS running in the upper corner to show FPS.

Battlefield 2- Gulf of Oman @ 1024x760- I don't remember why the low resolution. Screen shot was taken at the start of the level- http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/...enchmarks/BF22006-08-0702-10-12-56.jpg

Call of Duty 2 (1280x1024 resolution)- D-Day stage where you're coming on shore and facing gunfire from the top of the cliffs. Shot was taken right after you get off the boat and there is a huge explosion to your right- http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/...arks/cod2sp_s2006-08-0701-56-32-29.jpg

Well I felt I didn't do this card justice as I was running it on my cousin's 19-inch LCD(max resolution of 1280x1024) and wish I had brung my 20inch Dell 2005FWP(max 1680x1050). Running it at lower resolution tends to stress the CPU more- at higher resolutions the CPU will offload more work to the GPU. But I can tell you I had a chance to run this card with my 2005FPW a week earlier and I ran Oblivion on it at 1680x1050 and it was smooth as butter- sorry no screenshots.

There were a host of other games I wanted to do screen shots of- Oblivion, Quake 4, Black and White 2, Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter but I did not have enough time- I sold the CPU and motherboard two days after doing the benchmarks.

Then what was the point of getting the video card in the first place? What did you do with the video card after selling the processor and motherboard combo?

Lol, my thoughts exactly.

Anyway, congrats on the purchase. Very nice card, but it annoys me how much AGP'ers are screwed over price wise these days.

7600GT seems to be the best bang for buck on AGP atm, but obviously not as powerful as the 7900GS+.

Card belongs to my cousin. I just borrowed it to do the benchmarks. He still has it and currently using it with a P4 3.0ghz Prescott.
