W.U.S.S. has a problem

I rearranged the 980Ti's in WUSS to provide better cooling. All is well, there, they were recognized and are currently crunching Asteroids.

The problem is that they WERE Folding@Home. Upon the first restart, I had one task 'finish'ed, the other about 75% done. It gave the finished card a new WU, but the 75% task was gone, replaced by a new task.

A very short time later, it crashed (Windows did, v10). Upon restarting, FAH now refuses to start. Uninstall FAH, reinstall FAH, FAH won't start. 🙁

I left the data when I uninstalled and reinstalled. Perhaps some configuration there is no good. Or does Windows 10 deactivate any program that causes a crash? And with no warning, no explanation?

Any thoughts?

I tried uninstalling FAH again, this time including data. Reinstalled, and it still won't start. Must be Windows 10 that is blocking it. How do I clear the error/crash log or whatever, to see if that allows FAH to start?

I know FAH will stop if you get multiple consecutive failed WU, but once restarted it should resume operation.

It doesn't run at all? Do you see any FAH related processes running in the task manager? Nothing in the FAH log file? The FAH log file is critical for troubleshooting. Does the FAH control gui come up when you start it? Do you have the FAH client start automatically at boot time or do you start it automatically?

As you can see, I'm shooting in the dark here.

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers from Nvidia and performing a clean install?

Problem solved. I think. I haven't tried restarting, to see if it will start automatically (now that it's 'fixed'), but I got it to run by right clicking and telling it to 'run as administrator.'

The hideconsole.exe came up as incompatible previously, but I think that was when I tried to run it in Windows 8 compatibility mode.

Well, it's working, so thanks to all for the input.

Edit: You posted while I was typing biodoc, so:

Correct, it didn't run at all, there were no FAH processes in the task manager, no FAH gui, icon near the clock, web page, nothing, was showing.

Reinstalled vid drivers, but forgot about the clean install. What was that program again that COMPLETELY removes drivers? Anyway, I was able to crunch Asteroids in the interim, so I'm not sure that was the problem.

I think I've converted all my boxes to manually starting FAH.

And lastly, logs are for women. 😛 (and my mind just went to the gutter after that statement 🙄 ) So, uhm, no, forgot about the log(s). /Edit.

Drive sweeper?? I think?? When you reinstall Nvidia drivers, there is an option there that lets you do a clean install. Under custom not express mode. And If I were a betting man, you already knew this.....🙂 Anyway good to hear you have this solved.
