VZW: Starting to offer $70 "unlimited everything" a'la Sprint

Catch: Limited markets at this time. Same sort of thing as Sprint, $69.99/month 450 minutes, unlimited M2M (VZW mobiles only at this time), SMS and data.

Family share plan for $139.99, allots 1400 shared minutes, unlimited M2M, SMS and data for the first 2 phones, additional lines are $19.99/mo extra.

1 year contract required. The rub: There's a specific phone number (and possibly referral code) required to sign up for the plan, and that's only provided via the email Verizon is sending out to test markets.

That link has quite a few skeptics in it, but it does sound awesome if it is true.

One thing I find very annoying about Verizon though is that the corporate discounts only apply to the voice part of the plan. If the $70 plan is true, I wonder if it would be different?

Uh... what? How is that unlimited everything? Its not even unlimited minutes, the basis of an unlimited plan. At least with Sprints you get unlimited to ANY mobile, which is essentially giving it unlimited calling. This is hardly the same thing. This is just a 450 minute rate plan with texting and data added on.

Sprint isn't unlimited Mobile-to-Landline either - they only offer I think 500 anytime minutes for that. It's the advertising gimmick, just like Sprint's. It's not unlimited data, you'll get booted off for abusing ANY of the services on Sprint just the same. There's no such thing as "unlimited" consumption in any business... there will ALWAYS be a limit.

How is this plan ANY different than any normal minute rate plan. There is literally 0 difference. It's a minute plan with added unlimited texting and data. That's how its always worked.

It is cheaper. I think that ordinarily the unlimited texting is $15-20, and the unlimited data is $30. The voice plan is $40.

Yeah, with anymobile-anytime Sprint is still the way to go for us (especially with corp. discount). Currently we don't come anywhere close to using up our 1400 anytime minutes, but would easily blow past that without it.

wow ... i'm up on the 2 years w/my current one and have the new every 2 upgrade available for my phone as well. i have a family plan w/my wife right now and i don't even have a smart phone, and pay $125/mo after fees and stuff.

$140 for us to both have smart phones + unlimited stuff is a great price.

i'm stlill holding out though to see if an iphone comes out to verizon sometime soon. this plan is a great deal though.

I'll assume they mean 5GB and not unlimited.

As 4g takes over and people stream more movies, those limits will need to be lifted. Not to mention tethering which will go up exponentially with 4g.

Does anyone know how to change your data plan to the 150mb one if you have a DroidX? I went to my account page and it doesn't list that option, just my unlimited plan and the unlimited BB plan.

When I go to buy a new Droid I can see the 150MB option.. is it only available for new accounts?

No.
I have the Droid and when I threatened to cancel my service they offered me the low data plan and loyalty voice plan. I recommend you call them, I dont think its a normal option on My Verizon.

Nope, I was 1.5 years out anyway. It won't push back the date unless you're within a year.

I dont know about them, but I didnt renew anything. I just threatened to quit my current contract and they offered to change my rates immediately. Early Termination fee is nothing compared to being able to say they have 25 million customers. They'll do anything just to keep their subscriptions up. Kinda like how a magazine gives you two free years.

Tho Sprint does charge that fee even if you don't use 4G. They changed it from a 4G fee to a "Premium Data" fee.
