The LTE towers will do cdma as well so they probably just replaced them. And the LTE towers can handle more users per tower

It varies all the time here in Tucson. This is using a 3G aircard with my laptop . . . 1036 down and 400 up. Regular cable is 5390 down and 1833 up. The liklihood of decent 4G in this location is - eh - maybe in another year? :)

Thing that killed me was the 3G coverage in Los Angeles. Speed wasn't that great, maybe 2dn/1up at best, but it was fine when available. Just the coverage sucked. There were plenty of places I'd get no 3G signal around work. Even at home indoors I'd get 1 bar, but I used wifi at home so that wasn't that big a deal.

On 4G in Los Angeles, my minimum is usually 12dn/5up. Works everywhere I go, even inside my house and I never use wifi anymore. Those areas I had no 3G I only get around 5/2 on 4G. Could never go back.

I just ran speedtest. Here for me in Columbus, Ohio. a blazing 173kbps down, and 39 kbps up. I need to call Verizon and see what's up.

i got sick of running speedtests and seeing 700-900kbps so i stopped running tests a long time ago. i never thought about it getting better with lte rollout, mebbe ill check again at lunch. highest i ever saw my 3g speed was 1.4mbps up. still, its usable and about what i would expect for a mobile internet experience. my boss has the thunderbolt, ive been avoiding playing with it so i dont get used to those speeds. upgrade is not imminent here, i dont want to be teased when i cant get one myself.
