I have recently purchased a Viewsonic VX924 monitor and after some time spent in front of it, I have noticed that the bottom of the screen is much brighter then the rest of it. There is a arch-shape bright area going from the bottom left to bottom right corner. You can't see this difference looking at the desktop (only when it is pitch black), however, watching DVDs with black stripes on the top and bottom, you can, big time! This "arch" is also occuring on the left, right and top of the monitor, however it is much, much less noticable (less bright). I am wondering why the bottom one is so much more brighter.

I have used few LCD monitors of the newest generation from different manufacturers and none of them had this kind of a 'problem' (they did, but not so bad/severe).

Is this normal occurrence, and if so, is there a way to correct it without voiding the warranty? Is there anything that can be recommended? Any other owners of VX924 have any problems like these?

Thanks for your time.

PS: This is what the tech support at ViewSonic had to say (which was hopeless):
Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ViewSonic Technical Support.

As you are experiencing a light uniformity issue, the only thing that you may try would be to lower the contrast and brightness settings and see if that helps.

Regards,

Seems like this has been occuring with Viewsonic monitors a lot. Several reports of backlight leakage on the VP191b and VP930b too. Maybe their QC is going down the toilet. Long live Mura effects.

My only recommendation to you would be not to buy Viewsonic in the future. Don't know of any way to fix it yourself without voiding the warranty.

No no no, do not accept that as a final answer. I had a VP930b that I returned to newegg because of backlignt bleeding in the shape of an X accross the screen. Newegg made me call Viewsonic for troubleshooting and diagnosis. they told me that I could stand the chance of getting another one with the same problem so I opted to return for refund. Give VS a call at 1-800-888-8583 and don't take no for an answer.

I agree xtknight their QC has taken a dump.......

Yeah, refund it. Tell LCD companies you're not willing to put up with their crap in the only way they'll likely listen...

I always thought that ViewSonic makes excellent products. Do you guys think that the vendor I bought this monitor from would take this one back or does it have to be approved by Viewsonic directly?

What are your opinions on the Samsung 930BF (4ms response as well)?

930B is also a very good monitor, but for that one make sure you buy a DVI cable I believe they don't come with one.

The 930BF would be comparable to your current but the 970P would be even better in terms of colors, and comparable in terms of response.

Price wise the 930BF and VX924 are alsmost the same (from where I am planing to purchase this monitor from). The930B is $30 less then the 930BF so that is a no brainer. I do not see the 970P anywhere though. I may be good but I want to keep the price under $500 CDN.

Well, I will either replace the VX924 with another model and see how that goes, or (if the first option will not produce the results I want) I will exchange it for the 930BF and see how that goes.

PS: I use my monitor mostly for games, so colour reproduction is not a big issue for me; I would prefer the response time.

I just looked on Newegg and they have a VX922 that is a 2ms panel. It's a bit more expensive but it might be worth it. I don't know about CDN funds though. :( Good luck and let us know what you decide on and how it does. :)

So I took my monitor to the vendor I bought it from in my city. Customer rep pluged it in, looked at it under bright a$$ flourescent lights and said "Well, I don't see anything wrong with it". :roll:I told him to go into a dark room and check it out. I mean I am not a professional techie but I think I knew more then he did! Yes, it took me 2 months to realize that I may have a problem on my hands because I never owned an LCD before (and another month to act upon it - my bad :)) but when I did find out that there might be something wrong, I wanted to research it before I made a fool out of myself. So the best thing that will happen to me is that I will get a new model (can't get my money back or different LCD).

Anyhow, the monitor will be looked at by a ViewSonic rep here in town to see if there is a problem. If there is, they will ship it back to ViewSonic for fixing or replacement. I am stuck without an LCD (or replacement cuz they had none) for max 4 weeks! I guess I am going back to my old 17" CRT :|

My greatest concern is that I may get the backlight bleeding fixed but will get like 6 dead pixels instead which I think will tick me off more (I had only 1 in the previous model).

Cross your fingers guys and wish me luck!

PS: go with a Samsung :D (j/k)

So I got the monitor back from the vendor (did not go to ViewSonic). They said that they do not see anything wrong with it. I did compare the panel on site to another VX924 (which was being returned) and boy was the other panel messed up. (Mine was not as bad).

Anyhow, I could call up VS to get the ticket to return the unit but I don't wanna be without an LCD for 4 weeks. Besides there are no guarantes that they will ship me a better one. Best thing to do was to diagnose the monitor the first night after the purchase and keep on returning them if there was anything wrong with them, until you find one that is almost "perfect".

I have learned my lesson on how to pick a good LCD. Next time I probably will consider a Samsung as my #1 choice. Why? We have some Samsung 21" LCDs at work and man, they panel is absolutely flawless!

Thanks guys!

Please realize that the 930B and 930BF are not the same monitor. The 930B has bad backlighting issues, and just over all has not been a real good monitor. The 940B is basically an upgraded 930B and has received excellent reviews, while the 930BF is different from those two.
The 930BF was originally marketed in Europe and is an excellent choice. You definitely want to pay the extra $30 for the BF version, or get the 940B.

I think the 930B and 930BF is the same monitor with the only one difference that the BF is tweaked to make the panel reach 4ms. The 930B was designed for the European market (with a square base) then they decided to bring them to North America (round base) becasue they were such a hit in Europe. The monitors are the same *beep* but different pile; Probably like the VX924 and VX922. I doubt that Viewsonic changed the panel on the VX922 to reach the 3ms or 2ms (or whatever the say).
